Added a 76 Westy to the family
The guy who was selling the splitty buses on Hwy 78 still had a few VWs left after the splitties sold. One was a 70 Ghia which my sister-in-law bought and one was a 76 Westy which I bought.
The Westy runs, but doesn't want to idle. The exterior is OK with a couple of rough spots, but the interior is in good shape and fairly complete. I'm bringing my new toy home on Saturday, but probably won't do much with it till after Jake's show. (I'm trying to get the Thing ready) The biggest negative this bus has is that a PO removed the fuel injection and put on a Weber progressive because it was 'better'. I'll get and post pictures once it is home.
Ryan is the guy who is selling off most of his collection. He still has a 78 Riviera camper for sale. It needs a battery, gas, and interior work. Engine has been rebuilt by the Doster Bros. and it is still fuel injected. He has it on Craig's list for $5000. I know he'll go as low as $3000.

Re: Added a 76 Westy to the family
When I got the bus, it would run if you really stayed in the gas, but no idle or low RPMs. I drained all the old gas. Rinsed the tank with some fresh gas and replaced the fuel lines and filter. Had the jets in the carb cleaned and put it all back together. She cranked right up and will run at all speeds as well as idle. The carb on it is a fairly new EMPI progressive. It's the first time I've seen one by EMPI.

Here is a long overdue up-date. I have now got my bus body work and paint done. Here is my thread about it --> http://www.athensvwclub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1727
Sorry about the link, but I am too lazy to repost it all here.

We pulled out the refrigerator as part of the interior refresh and found a paper with what I think is the original owner's name and address. The bus was purchased new at Rader VW in Augusta and this address is an Augusta address. I'm going to try to get in touch with him and see what he can tell me about my bus.

NICE!
I found the original owner of a 1970 Westie that I bought out of Central AL a few years ago.
HE LIVED 8 MILES FROM ME IN RINGGOLD, GA!
The look on the 80+ year old man's eyes was totally worth it.
Took him for a ride in it.
I tossed him the keys and he said thanks but no thanks, you drive.
He was afraid he would hurt the bus.
Good Job, I hope it turns out that that is an Original Owner and they are still around.
