Solex H30/31Pict Flooding
I just bought a project 71 super beetle and rebuilt the engine with some friends of mine. We rebuilt the carb beforehand and resorted to giving the engine an overhaul, but we're still having issues with the carb. When the car sits for a period of time, it starts up but won't stay on very long when idle, unless we pull the throttle. when we crank it, the carb floods itself and we have to wait for it to dry out before we can proceed attempting to tune. won't stay idle and floods itself.

Not exactly sure but it sounds like the float could be sticking.

Yeah, could be the float or needle valve sticking. Also your fuel pressure could be to high. Should be around 3 pounds. Aftermarket fuel pumps are very bad about putting out to much pressure right out of the box. I had one putting out nearly 8 pounds, and had to put a ton of extra gaskets under the fuel pump and shave a little material of off the fuel pump pushrod.

Also, the float might have a hole in it, it could be filling up with gas and sinking letting fuel overflow the float bowl
