Hello - new thing owner
new owner of a hopefully to be restored 74 Thing.
Didn't know this site existed until was searching the archives on the Chattanooga forum. someone had put your link in a topic
Had a 70 bug for a few years and sold it. then restored a 74 bmw 2002 tii. been having a itch for a Thing for sometime and just did some trading for the 74 Thing.
It's in a little worse shape than what I originally thought, but we'll get there. knew the turn signal switch was bad, so went to replace it and found there was not plug-in for it. someone had rewired the turn signal through a toggle switch. ( so hunting a wiring harness now), then found the bushing that goes through the upper steering column bearing is gone, so got to replace that along with the passenger floorboard, look at reverse(it's about gone), need some seats, etc
She'll be a project but we'll get her, got to, going to keep her for awhile. Still learning what all parts fit the Thing.
Thanks and hope to meet you all at some point.

Re: Hello - new thing owner
Thanks all,
When I had the 70 bug a few years ago. just seemed the chattanooga group was closer when I needed something, so didn't really go outside the circle. With the thing, it makes you explore a little more, didn't realize there was Cartersville groups and such.

Re: Hello - new thing owner
Welcome to the group, Ron. I picked up a 73 Type 181 early last year so I'm learning about them as I go. Let me know if I can help with anything. Post some pics of your project!

Re: Hello - new thing owner
Hi,
Thanks, saw those seats last week and e-mailed the guy. He said they were after market seats. Not sure what that meant. But thought they were pretty nice. Do you know anything about them?
thanks

Re: Hello - new thing owner
Thanks same here. Will have to make it down your way one day, if I can break away..
Funny how you get started on a restore project, somehow you get consumed by it and hard to get away.
