My definition for early is late 70's or early 80's because of them putting out the aircoolers.

Did you check the usual suspects...plug wires, dizzy, plugs, timing, etc?

i need a expert.i got a 81 rabbit gas burner that has a skip on number 1 cylinder, sometimes going down the road it will kick in.also i give it a tune up to make sure the plugs, wires, cap and button was in working order.also when you go to crank it first time of the dayit is hard to start.new fuel pump was installed several months ago.it had no problems then.the car is for sell or trade but i wish i could get the skip out.

Sounds like maybe an issue with your cold start valve leaking. Let me know if you need to know how to test.

I don't know for certain, but I would think that since it sits over the #1 cylinder that if it were leaking it could cause problems.
