Huge thanks to the Addicts and Bobby for all their help and patience on the trip home, hope the rest of your trip wasn't too rainy.
Leaving the bug at Kelly's moms house for a few days until I can get back with another fuel pump.
I've got a few pics I'll get up in a day or so.
Mine may be vapor lock as well. I already have another fuel pump so I'm going to switch it out and see if that works. It ran like a champ when it was running. But if I cut it off for a few minutes (gas station fill-ups), and then restarted it, it would run until the bowl went dry and then die. Pulled the line to the carb and cranked the engine over, and the pump wouldn't pump anything out. The last time it happened, Bobby made a make shift funnel, and we filled the carb bowl to get gas in there. Once it was full, we cranked it, and the pump started pulling gas through.
Did you have too many gaskets under the fuel pump from earlier issues?

Oh I had a crap ton of gaskets under there!!! At least 8, and the pushrod had been shaved down a few mm as well. Only way I could ever get the pressure to around 3lbs. I put my alternator style fuel pump on yesterday and was able to get rid of all the extra gaskets.
The second and third time it happened, we had been hauling butt for a real long period of time, so I can kinda understand it maybe getting a little to hot. But the very first time it happened, we had only been on the road for about 40 miles??? Of course that time it re-started after only about a minute though.

Re: Daytona WinterJam 2011
All those shims cut down on the fuel delivery to the carb, also check that vent tube at the filler cap is not plugged.

Re: Daytona WinterJam 2011
Yeah, hopefully this new pump will be better without so many shims! I did pull the vent tube out from where it exits the front apron and blew through it. It was nice and clear. I'll be giving it a good drive this weekend for the Reynolds trip, so we'll see how it goes!
Last night I swapped back over to the aftermarket fanshroud and put in the alternator I got from you. Still got to wire it up and get the belt on. Just wanted to go on and swap it over and make sure it was all nice and lined up correctly BEFORE we tackle those carbs again.

Re: Daytona WinterJam 2011
Haha, doesn't look like I'm in much action here, I can just barely see my shoe in the left margin. Bobby is doing all the hard work. The windex bottle worked much better than the plastic cup! I've been waiting for these pictures to surface. Haven't had any starting problems since putting in the new fuel pump. It'll have a good long test run up and down to BAP next month.
