Gas Smell This Morning...
1970 Baywindow Type 1 motor (picture at bottom)
Ok, put a little gas in on Friday, Drove all weekend with no trouble, no smell.
Parked in the garage on Sunday. This morning when I left for work, opened garage door and hit with a strong smell of gas. Walked by and opened engine lid, and thats definitly where it was coming from. Didnt have much time to look since I was on my way to work, but I looked at the visible soft fuel lines and none seemed to be leaking....???
Thoughts / Suggestions,
any help is appreciated!

Re: Gas Smell This Morning...
Could be hoses, leaking seals or diaphram on the carb, a stuck float on the carb thart is causing the bowl to overflow or leaks from the fuel pump. One thing that I would do for sure it move the filter to feed the fuel pump instead of having that after the pump to keep debris out of the pump. Clean the fuel pump before you do because it may already have debris in it. Looks like it is one of the rebuildable ones so it shouldn't be too hard.

Re: Gas Smell This Morning...
I am planning on moving the filter behind the firewall very soon. I actually have the complete fuel line kit coming from german supply (if it ever arrives).
I have noticed in the past, that the fuel pump looked like it needed a new seal so that could be one thing, but it never looks like it leaks alot?
I also remembered that I had to crank it up and pull it a little farther in the garage Sunday evening, so maybe it could be that the float is stuck in the carb....
I will get home and take a look, see what I see!

A Wrench!
Man, could you get any closer to an ignition source? Glad you found it.

Re: Gas Smell This Morning...
I got all the screws on top of the pump tightned, and got the hard fuel line nut to turn maybe a 1/4 of a turn tighter. This morning I looked on my way out and did not see the drip that was previously there. I think I got it fixed for now, but I still want to get the pump cleaned up and find some new gaskets.
Thanks for all your suggestions!
