Re: spark plug spinning out
helicoil- but make sure you dont try this with the head in the car- or JB weld if ya just want to get by
Re: spark plug spinning out
Timeserts are the way to go if you want to do it right... I made the mistake in using helicoils in my first beetle... eventually they will come out with the plug! BTW... I tried to use loctite on mine in a pinch... it so didn't work! I am sure JBWeld would do better

Re: spark plug spinning out
I should think that you culd wrap the threads of the plug with aluminum foil 2 or 3 layers, if it gets loose into the engine no biggie. I used JB weld on a muffler one time and it did melt out. I immagine that the molten JB weld COULD get into the top end of the cylinder, weither it gets blown out or cools back into a solid is the question. Also, does JB weld conduct electricity, I do not think that id does. This could cause the spark plug to have a weak spark or no spark at all.

Re: spark plug spinning out
I have done numerous spark plug inserts with the engine in the car. But then again, Im lazy. The key is to coat the tap with kroil and go slowly. Most of the aluminum will stick to the kroil on the tap. Put the insert on the plug, some loctite on the insert, and put it back in. It isnt bad.

Re: spark plug spinning out
Insert/helicoil both are bandaids IMO. Since you have to pull the head anyway, you might as well swap it out.

Cool that it worked for you... I think I didn't let mine set long enough and/or there wasnt enough left for it to set on!
