2010 Poker Run sponsored by the Athens VW club

This year's Poker Run will be on Saturday May 8. We will start around 10:00am. The exact time will be posted soon. This year's route will take us to some of our favorite stops from past runs. It will be a little shorter than last year and there won't be as many steep grades.

The host hotel this year is the Super 8. It is under the same managment as the Best Western and it is less expensive, plus they have an indoor pool. The rooms this year are $59.00 per night and they have a block of rooms reserved for us. 706 878 2191 is the number for reservations. Tell them you are with the Athens VW club. (smoking rooms and rooms with jacuzzis are available, but not in our block and jacuzzi rooms cost more)

im going to try my best to go one this run, i miss it last year and heard you guys had a blast, but is this a two day event i see you guys getting hotels,is there a flyer out?

The Poker Run itself is just on Saturday. Many people come just for the day. The run starts in Helen GA and ends in Cleveland GA at Jake Raby's shop. After the run we go back to Helen and have a cook-out at the hotel. Those of us that stay at the hotel do so to make a weekend event of the run. We arrive on Friday, eat in downtown Helen and then go back for the parking lot party. Saturday evening we have the cook-out and another parking lot party. Sunday is Mother's Day. What better way to celebrate Mother's Day than another ride in the mountains?

We don't have a flyer. We put a 50 car limit on the run. We cruise together on the run and more than 50 cars parking and following each other is more than we care to handle. Each year we are right at the limit without putting out a flyer. Most participants have been in all 5 previous runs. With them returning and word of mouth, and this forum as well as our own, we haven't needed a flyer. (long answer to a short question)

Registration Info: $30.00 entry fee - gets you an event shirt (new look this year) and one entry to draw cards. Additional shirts are $10.00.

Send your entry fee to: Jon Hobus, 1041 Elder Ridge Dr., Bishop GA 30621. Be sure to include your shirt size, name, and contact info. If you want extra shirts please order them at the same time.

Please make checks to Jon Hobus and put Poker Run in the memo space.

The shirt order goes in April 28, so get your sizes to me by then to be sure we have your size.

We will meet Saturday morning at the park behind the Best Western Conference Center in Helen. Come early enough to sign in and get your shirt, map, and directions. We will leave at 10:30am. Our first stop is Fenders Diner. We will arrive there 11:15-11:30ish for an early lunch.

My car... gonna trailer up....12 to 1 lil much for that longa drive.

I will set up the registration table at 9:00 am Saturday. I will be set up by the parking lot at the park. I hope to have all the morning's registrations done by 10:00. We will get lined up and head out at 10:30.

We'll eat lunch at the first stop, which is Fender's Diner in Cornelia. (bring your lunch money) The rest of the stops and a map are posted on the Athens website. (see link above)

After the final stop and prizes at Jake Raby's shop, we'll head back to Helen for the post-run cookout. We'll have hotdogs and hamburgers. There is no cost, all the eats are provided by our club. Just bring your favorite beverage.

We had a great time! The weather was perfect. We had 33 cars make the trip. This was our best run yet. Many pictures were taken and I hope some will be posted soon. ( James ) Thanks to all who came out.

Saw the pics the other night, looks like yall had a great time! Hopefully, next year we can avoid the "break-down" jinx that has kept us at home the last two years...
