To Cut Or Not To Cut
I bought my '67 Beetle Sedan in May 2009 and absolutely love it However, the one thing I wish it had is a ragtop. Tell me what you think. Should I let it be or go for it?

Re: To Cut Or Not To Cut
it is YOUR car so do what YOU want. i had a StreetBeat sliding rag and it was easy to install and operate. never had any leaks and minimal wind noise(rattle) when closed.

If you really want it go for it, cut it in. I love my ragtop and now I can't ever see me without one.

Re: To Cut Or Not To Cut
My 2 cents- since a '67 factory sunroof is a steel panel, I'd look for a whole roof with the factory mechanism. I used to have one, but had to throw it away when I moved.
I grafted the ragtop sunroof into my '57, and if that's what you want, go for it!
I've got a '67 also, but I'd put in the steel sunroof if I was going to add one.

Ragtops are nice, and its your car. Might hurt the resale if that concerns you at all.

Which, I would agree with the steel. If (for whatever reason it may be...) you decided to get rid of it, at least the steel sunroof would be something that was available for 1967. I don't know if either one is harder to maintain or repair when needed, but I do remember the 64 my Dad had leaked too often.
Although, I do like the rags better.....

Just make sure you do a good job. Unless it's a documented all original, low mileage car, make it your own and enjoy it.

Re: To Cut Or Not To Cut
If you have the money/skills to do it right, I'd go for it. I'm like Malik, after owning a ragtop, it would be very hard for me to go back to a hardtop.
Passed this guy on the downtown connector about 5 years ago. 65 or 66 that most likely had a graft. It was tough looking (would have been even tougher if the ragtop was open!!!)

Re: To Cut Or Not To Cut
So, what would be harder... smoothing out a few spots in a roof that show evidence of a previous buckle? Or grafting a rag into one?
The spots on mine are not too noticable.... but I do know that it is a major pain and time consuming to make it right, well perfect-ish, for new paint.

Re: To Cut Or Not To Cut
I want a ragtop or make one but I am waiting for a different bug. Too much history to do that to mine.
I would do it if you have some damage up top and if you dont care about reselling it. They look so SICK!

Hey..... I drive a Honda. But, I am planning on letting it sit and rust, instead of the VW.fluxcap wrote:atye wrote:
