Shift Rod Problem
Ok got ready to leave out for the Tuesday night Gig and "What no way!" No shifting into gears, shifter just warbles around. Well pushed car home still in subdivision, went to gig and we all talked about it this is a picture from the Samba of what I see in the tunnel under the shifter. Broken shift rod bushing bracket.
Mine is even broken in the same damn spot!!!!
Has anyone ever removed one? I emailed the poor soul that removed the one pictured hoping that he could also help. I'm already tired of driving that damn Intrepid!!!!

Re: Shift Rod Problem
I knew I had seen a good thread with some pictures on the samba. Apparently it is 6 spot welds. You drill them out, then install the new hanger using the shifter bolts, the tack it in place through the holes you drilled.
Scroll down a little ways for some good pics

Re: Shift Rod Problem
Yeah it is real easy drill the spot welds, bolt new bracket in place with shifter bolts and re-weld, then re-install bushing and shift rod
Not hard but not fun.....
Good Luck!

Re: Shift Rod Problem
Welding is the problem. I'm hoping I can just bolt the shifter back on and not weld it. The bolts go through holes and it will "Clamp" the bracket into place. If it still moves I'll have to weld it for sure! I just got that carpet in and it is glued very well. Hope a heat gun will loosen it up....
Re: Shift Rod Problem
Just bolting it may work. I guess you'd have to put some kind of adhesive on it, then temporarily bolt it in like in those pics and install the bushing and shift rod. Then you'd have to take the temporary bolts out, and hope the adhesive holds the weight of the shift rod for a minute or two until you can get the shifter and bolts installed.
If you decide to weld it, let me know. I just bought a new tank of gas, spool of wire, and some new tips!

Re: Shift Rod Problem
I'll put some bolts in it to hold it until I get the rod pushed back in then use some creative bolting to install the shifter. I'll post how it goes, mean while I'm wainting on the part!
