I don't see how it turned into that. All he was doing was commenting about how happy he was to get his car running great.
I don't think locking it was needed at all, I mean that's what forums are for. People with different opinions and ideas talking about them basically. It was locked because the other two guys arguing about the advance, don't know which one is right but I don't really care lol it works great for me.

Re: Ban 009's!!
If and/or when my 009 takes a dump I probably will. But, given the track record of my 009, that probably won't happen for another ten years. I realize I'm one of the lucky ones based on the complaints about these dizzys. Up until this month I've been driving aircooled VWs daily for over 15 years. I need my cars to run and run dependably. Those that know me and cruise with me know my cars run strong and I can use fewer fingers than I have on one hand to show the number of times I've broken down. In order for me to start tinkering with stuff that I have a proven track record with, there needs to be very good reasons other than it shouldn't work as well as it does.R33ce97 wrote:bumblebuggy wrote:I've been running the same 009 with a 34pict 3 for 15 years. Have you ever tried an svda?

Yeah man, if it works that well for you than stick with it! Just shows that 009's are capable of working but have terrible quality consistency in general.

Re: Ban 009's!!
Ya know. I really don't think my success has anything to do with the dizzy. I personally think it's my carb that is making it work. Don't know what it is about my 34 but it doesn't seem to create the problem others have had. I think if/when that carb craps out on me is when problems with the combo might manifest.R33ce97 wrote:Yeah man, if it works that well for you than stick with it! Re: Ban 009's!!
True THAT. You can have two 1776cc motors with different internals and get very different results. Combination of everything working together makes it a great motor. Not just bolting something on or together and expecting and outstanding outcome right out of the box. Those that do are blind and ignorant. I stopped using Bosch dizzys ten years ago and never looked back. My customers are happy with my engine builds and choices of components I have made for there cars. Good luck

Will this fit a type 4 with the upright conversion? I know CB's ad says it won't fit type 4 with stock cool tin.
Re: Ban 009's!!
Yes with upright conversion it will fit perfectly. Buy the complete kit and never look back. Wires work well with all DTM kits. Cap an rotor are cheap if you ever need to replace it. On all Baja and exposed engine cars I seal the cap with a little 518 or white Lithium grease. Timing will never change and dizzy is tuned right out the box. Ur always welcome to call me for installation advise if need be

That's good news. I've always felt like the ignition system is a limiting factor with my type 4. I'll give you a call once I get one. Thanks.

I got the CB ignition and hope to get it installed this weekend.

When you try out the 019, let me know what you think of it. I've heard that the H30/31 and a 019 are a good pair.
Just wanted to give an update.
I fried the electronic ign on the 019 (operator error)... so I am running an 010 on my 1776 SP
So far, I am pleased with it's results. It does seem to only advance like ~15*.
So I currently only have it advancing to 22* at WOT. I plan on changing this weekend (going to go 28*).
I am just breaking the engine in now, has like 70 miles on it.
I have sourced a set of Kadrons for the SP vintage intake I have cross-over tube still intact.
All the little components that they are missing are in the mail and should arrive this weekend or next.
I plan on running the Kadrons and opening up the exhaust with this oversized header set I bought from a member here.
With the extra flow on the exhaust and the larger carb venturi I hope to squeeze some more power out of it.
It is WAY more perky than the 1500 SP that was in it.
I'll report more in a week or three when I get all the "stuff" installed.
I plan on trying the 019 and the 010 on this set up.
Both the disto's look and act like new.

Will do, thanks.
Re: Ban 009's!!
I finally got the ignition I bought in May installed in the Thing. (Thanks Clyde!) I'll give ya'll some feedback after I put some miles on it.
I am taking the Thing to Florida for Bug Jam week (trailering down) so it should get some good drive time on it.

Well......when you have Clyde for a brother-in-law sometimes things get done quicker when you get him to help. And by 'help' I mean I hand him whatever he needs to do the job. So yeah, I put it in 'myself'.

I have been running the 019 disto with the electronic ignition for months now and no issues. I ran it with the 30/31 and the dual kadrons I have.
I have had the 010 with points in the trunk for security but have not needed it.
The 019 advances farther than the 010 so I do not have to idle at 14*. The 019 I can idle at near 0* and advance all the way to 30 ish. The 010 only advances around 20* total so your idle was always advanced...
just an update.
