Lower A BAY Empty Lower A BAY

I have a 72 Bay bus. Almost on the road worthy. My next plans is to Lower. I need some help What and How is your set up to Lower a Bay and Cost.

That depends on how low! If you just want to close the gap on the tire and fender then it could be as easy as cut and turn or drill and turn. Which would be drilling out the dimples in the beam and then loading the bus so the piece inside the beam rolls around to the right height and then weld the drilled out spots on the beam. Then the cut and turn would be cut the beam tube lower the bus where you want it and weld it in that position.

Some folks will tell you to remove leavea in the beam I would not do this if you hit a big enough bump it could cause the other leaves to fail and that wouldn't be good. Also if you are a novice welder I would let someone who has more experience welding do that for you as well. Beam weld could fail and the suspension will bottom out. "That can't be good"

The other way is to weld in adjusters, which will give you adjustments if you are too low when loaded or what not. Bus adjusters are not much around $50 for a set.

As far as the rear, the old "Click" trick works. Remove the torsion arm and re clock on the torsion bar. Cost, blood sweat and tears.

My Bus was like this....

But after adding adjusters to the front beam and rolling the torsion arms 1 click in the rear it sits like this...

Total cost around $50 bucks but I did all the welding and took the rear trailing arms off several times to get it right.

Also to achieve this look you could add drop spindles which run around $325 or so. Also Boomerang plates could be added to the rear trailing arms to lower the rear also. Boomerang plates run about $375.

Now to go lower you have to do more to the beam, the rear is pretty much the same but to go real low you might need to clearance the frame. The beam would have to be narrowed to get the tires into the wheel well to clear some metal that is under the seat. Tubing would be the next drastic step.

I'm not going any further. Rear this thread and you will see what DoodleBugg has done to achieve a really low Bus.

I drive my Bus everyday and the height that it is right now is perfect for me. It rides just like it did before I lowered it and I think it looks better. I can still miss a dead Armadillo if need be!!

If you want to drop your Bus off and pick it up lowered then no one is better at it than Doodle!
