Locked up engine Empty Locked up engine

I am in the middle of tearing down my engine and looking for advice. I pulled the heads last night, but having issues getting the pstons and cylinders off because the pistons are stuck.

Anyone have any tricks that might help?

Pb blaster and a big rubber mallet or soft dead blow. And a block of wood

Thanks...should I be hitting the pistons or the cylinders?

Pistons!
Cylinders will break fins or worse.
A good penetrant I use is equal parts acetone and automatic trans fluid.
Saw this mixture at the tractor repair place, asked about it and this is what they use to break 30 year old lug nuts loose that are caked over with rust.
Try it, you'll be surprised. It doesn't stay on the threads like WD-40 or PB blaster, so you;ll still need to oil up stuff when you get it apart.
But for penetrating and breaking loose, cannot be beat.
I just used this to break loose a 1600 that was rusted pretty bad in the cyl.
It was so locked up that I broke loose both the gland nut and the crank bolt trying to move it before I used this stuff.
I'm a belever.

I fixed my earlier response and added a testimonial.
Make sure to tap only Piston.
USE the concoction, it really works

Tipped the engine on its side last night and filled two cylinders with the ATF/acetone mix. Cylinders were still full this morning.

LOL....either that or the pistons are rusted solid to the cylinders.

Ok. I have beat on the pistons with a 4 lb hammer and wooden drift to no avail. Wondering if I should waste any more time on this or just throw it on the scrap heap.

Try a little heat on it, Heat the cylinder up with a propane torch, or a heat gun, then hit it.
