Ellie 61/62 Bug
So if you havent seen "Eeva" shes the 61 i got from cali. i have ellie off her pan and i will be switching bodies with eeva. so ellie is pretty much gonna be a 61 soon. this is ellie from day one:
January 27, 2009:
Well last night i was lurking on craigslist before i went to bed and i saw a post for 3 vw cars for parts.. a 70 bug(with engine), a early 70's ghia (no engine) and a 65 bug (with engine) I emailed the guy a couple times and i called him in the morning. He said he was bombarded with emails and i was the first to call. He said the 65 was yellow and he wasnt sure it was a 65. i had this "feeling" it was beryl green..cuz he said it was a yellow-greenish. well well well
when we got there and i saw the interior i had to find all my power to shut the hell up and not scream and jump for joy. Shes pretty solid, on like some surface rust on the outside. she was sittin in a storage unit for 30 years. She definitely needs some dents pulled out on the body but we have all the tools and machines to do that. I need a hood and a right rear fender. i have a feeling ill be looking for a while but it will be worth it. I havent even brought her home yet and i gotta post this!
Im gonna get some more pics when i get her home and clean her all up.
this is when we brought her home
before i cleaned her out
easy off!
easy-off and i pounded out the rear fender. (im gonna put together a before/after photo)
got her pretty clean inside
pretty nice front end
in the backseat there were 30 year old cigs! (there still there, i havent emptied it-i dont know if i will)
Recently:
we got her a hood, not the correct one, but it will do for now! better than no hood! if ANYONE has or knows of beryl hood, let me know!!!!
easy offed of course
and decklid
then i got really antsy and wanted to pull out her front end
before
after
this stuff does wonders
seats in and nice and comfy!
before i attacked it
after
before
a little better
pulled her body off her pan!
shes nakey!
cleaning the beam so it can get cut.
now i am anxious to get to NC so i can work on her, cuz davids bus is done. THANK GOD!!
dyin over here!

Re: Ellie 61/62 Bug
Please give the Easy-Off process. I need to remove some respray but I don't want to kill what is under it.
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Ellie 61/62 Bug
ok you gotta find the easy off that has NO scent. which is REALLY hard now because its like it disappeared. you can buy it on amazon. that stuff is the best. the fresh scent KIND OF works but it takes longer. maybe thats what you need because it doesnt look like you have a thick layer of paint to get through. if its spray paint it should come off easy.
your gonna wanna be out of direct sunlight and make sure the car is dry. wear long sleeves and pants so the easy off doesnt burn your skin. (trust me, it sucks) youre then gonna spray easy off on a ok size section, say like the door, and only spray on what you want removed (aka spray paint) you wanna leave it on there for a while till it looks like its bubbling and pulling up paint. u will know when its really working because you can scratch a little area off and it like rubs/peels off. make sure youhave a water hose on and ready to spray. theres nothing like leaving it on too long and it goes to metal.
use a hard bristled brush too.
easy off is the only brand that works. ive used all the off brands and for some reason there is something in the easy off that works.
the original stuff is the hard core stuff...good luck finding it!

Re: Ellie 61/62 Bug
MAJOR UPDATE!!
o boy o boy o boy!!
next: put ragtop together, finish tie rods, put seats in, then cruise her around! Still need to get some mats. Dont have the extra flow for carpet and a headliner. waitin for that tax return!
That was this weekend, this was today:
painted the hood, ragtop, apron, and other little spots.
(carpet/mats will cover everything else) Did this to both sides
painted the bottom "v' between the door and fender
front apron all nice n perty
hood all perfect. gonna be wet sanding it someday in the future to faketina it to match the rest of the car. i will def post pics on that. this hood will do till i find an og one.
so a little set back today. 40H was running good on a 12v battery, but we got the 6v we needed. then it wouldnt start! turns out there was a 12v starter! sooo now gotta get that 6v bushing and a 6v starter, which of course found one for $39.99 at autozone. cant beat that. anyone use those starters before? gonna check out some mats from a buddy tomorrow, hopefully there not too torn up, right now i dont even care cuz i need some asap!!
welp, thanks for checkin out my progress folks!

Re: Ellie 61/62 Bug
if it has a 12v starter then unless they changed the pinion on the starter then you have a 12v flywheel as well. in order to keep six volts you will have to change the pinion as well

the starter sounded a little funny, the flywheel is correct for a 6v...it was all a weird setup!

Re: Ellie 61/62 Bug
bleach works but if you need rust faster try mixing some hydrogen peroxide, salt and vinegar together and spray on.
