Re: what do you keep in your emergency roadside kit?
I had an emergency kit, but i've pretty much used everything in it now, lol.
But what i did have was:
-two extra belts (why not)
-A case (12) of 20-50 racing oil (zinc)
-two extra fuel filters
-FIRE EXTINGUISHER <<< THIS IS A MUST ON ANY VW>>>
-set of points and condensor
-flashlight
-roll of 10 guage wire
-Wire crimper
-assortment of wire ends
-jumper cables
-Spare battery
-small electric air pump to fill tires
-Spare tire (DUH)
-Can o slime fix-a-flat
-4 way (lug nut wrench thing)
-small hand crank jack (no idea where it came from, but it kinda looks like a bottle jack, but has a really wide base, and you can stick a screwdriver in the hole and twist it but hand, and it will lift the car up.)
-small el cheapo set of sockets
-"" "" of wrenches
-extra 13mm, & 10mm wrenches
-Assortment of screwdrivers
-AAA card
Most of this stuff was actually pretty easy to hide. It all pretty much fit under the backseat, front seats, and under the hood.
I don't carry all this stuff with me all the time. this is usually when i go to a far away show or something. I had this stuff when i went to BAP. normally i just carry my fire extinguisher, spare tire, a few tools, 2 quarts of oil, and a few other little things. for anything major, i'll just use my AAA card, lol. seriously, everyone should get AAA. it only costs $120 A YEAR for their best service, 200 free miles of towing.

Re: what do you keep in your emergency roadside kit?
Lately, whenever I've replaced anything mechanical or electrical on my car, if the old one was still working, I've tried to keep it in the car. My voltage regulator is on my generator, so the area under the backseat on the drivers side is clear and where I keep some bigger items I hope to never need.
Under there I have an extra:
009 distributor
34pict3 carb
small scissor jack
two extra generator belts
valve cover gaskets
fuel filters
accelerator and clutch cable
points, rotor, condensor, coil
I also keep a few thing shoved behind my spare tire, nicely hidden by a hubcap:
2 quarts of oil
idiot book
timing light
On top of the gas tank I keep my tool bag with the regulars:
metric wrench and socket set
screwdrivers
hammer
small lug nut tool
electrical tape
zip ties
electrical wire, connectors
channel locks
pliers
set of new spark plugs
regular flashlight
one of those cheapo flashlights that strap to your head
bag o' random nuts/bolts/clamps
nylon straps
gloves
rag

Re: what do you keep in your emergency roadside kit?
Hagerty with 120 miles of towing.
The usual small blow formed tool kit with metric and standard 3/8 and 1/4 sockets and wrenches / allens etc. A medium sized vice grip, 1 qt of oil in the windshield wiper storage tank area, an old worn belt, a pair of slip pliers, fix a flat (my spare is the oem continental...) and a CORRECT Fire Extinguisher. As said by all, the kit is small and fits behind or below stuff.
If I cannot fix it with this small kit, I NEED to be towed, not happened yet...
Removed and reinstalled and repeened a fuel pump pivot shaft 2 weeks ago on the side of the road, had all I needed in this kit to do the repair, took 27 minutes including troubleshooting.

I've been following this rule pretty closely too. The cabinet under the back seat of my Westy is getting pretty full.

Re: what do you keep in your emergency roadside kit?
also good to have a GPS to let you know where the closest auto parts stor is, when your oil light starts flickering, and you've already used your spare quarts, or you engine is bogging because your fuel filter is black with crud . both of these instances happened to me, lol. once, when comming back from stockornaut (the oil light thing), and on the way to BAP (smash's bug had a clogged fuel filter), lol.
