Heading down on Thursday. Headed back on Monday. Some other Splitties are cruising with me!

Just under three weeks to go. Lubing up the Jolly Rancher for the trip. Putting together a packing list and wondering how things are going to work.

Lets get our ducks (VWs) in a row for the trip. Alex, Billie, and Ben are headed down from the north side on Thursday evening. We have two here on the south side (Bryce and I) that will join the convoy at some point and possibly pick up Raymond in Warner Robbins as we slide by. The goal is to make it as far as Valodasta before stopping and hopefully crash in Buckholts yard if he'll still let us.

Here's the thing ladies and gents... I'd love to be part of the carabus but my VW still has a 1600 with RGBs and I cruise out @ 57mph. If you guys have a problem rolling that slow (which I fully understand), feel free to leave me on my own and I'll get there when I get there.

We will be goin slow. I am a 1500 single kinda guy and Alex still has his redux axles! Slow is fine. I am getting excited!

So how well does that 1500 push it. I have a 66 that I have got offset springplates and a 68 bug tranny and was wondering how the 1500 or the 1600 would push it.

I got it out on HWY 400 last weekend and drove the hell out of it. It did great! I was pleased with its speed. Its not fast, but the stock 1500 and 68 type1 tranny did great. I dont have a spedo, but I kept up with traffic on 400! I say it cruises nice at about 65mph.

How is the acceleration?

Pretty good. I would compare it to that of a bug with a 1600. My bus is a 1500 single port with a header and New Solex pict 30 carb. The single port torque and 68 gearing makes for a nice ride. Like I said not fast but I would drive it on the freeway and not fear for my life.......much.

I put my bug's 1300 in my bus for the Dixie Fried show in Atlanta. It pushed the bus fine just took forever to get to highway speed. My normal engine for the bus is back in now it is a 1641 single port with dual kadrons.

I have been wanting to build a 1776 single port (lots of torque and to just be different) so I will probably build it (eventually) for the bus. Got a 1500 and 1600 right now for it.

ive heard of people building big engines with single port. They seem to swear by it. By the way Dave's fine with people camping out on Thursday.

I guess we will see.

how many will be meeting up here. I get off at 5:30 but it is flexible any idea on a time the people will be rolling through.
