Adjusted the clutch cable and fixed a tail light on the Oval today, I'm still sore from helping Gary move yesterday. Gary got a bunch of help, and we rocked it out!

Got most of the welding done on the German Look. I did get all the welding done on the front left quarter panel. Did all the grinding and ready for the skim coat of bondo. Turned out not to bad. I will post a few pics tomorrow.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Went up to Stockornaut tonight in the waterbug without incident. All of my lights are working and the heater was pumping warm air on my feet. No starting problems. The new battery took care of that. I think it's road worthy at last.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Pulled the passenger drum off today to compare with the one that stripped. Things are starting to make sense now. There is a 1/4" difference in the hub thickness between the two. It appears that there was a 1/4 spacer on the driver side at one time and was missing when I got the bus. The former owner had been trying to do some brake work, and I think it was left off when he reassembled the hub. The extra play eventually ate up the splines in the drum. When we replaced the first drum, we just reassembled it like it was and unknowingly duplicated the problem again. Of course this is all theory until I get a new drum, make a spacer, and drive it over 5000 miles!!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Thought I'd busted my Trans but it turns out that the Passenger side Nut(rear wheel) was loose and causing a real loud roar on partial throttle. Tightened the shit out of it! Also got to go to Herrell's on Sat. and get some new disk brake pads, mine are to the metal!

Lucky you caught it in time or you would probably be like me and have a drum with all the splines sheared off.

Yeah same one, I just went for a spin and that fixed it. He's been running really good since I took the POS Empi 009 out. I got a stock 205T vacuum advance dizzy in there. Still need a re-bushed carb from keifernet. Thank God the trans isn't busted!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Today i went up to stockornaut. first time i have ever been up there. Really cool guys. spent overn an hour lookin at stuff, and talkin, and trying to find me a good cam. we eventually found a good one. price was right. as i went to the ATM to git some money, he cleaned it up and oiled it. really awsome.
After that i picked up my new daily driver. its a 1972 super beetle. has a newly built 2007cc engine, with a brand spankin new weber 44 IDF centermount carb. new lowering springs, etc. drives great. felt good to actually drive home a vw for a change, instead of towing it home, hahahahaha. and the best part............. i got it for $1,000 . anyhoo, here's the VW porn:

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
obviously needs a little TLC, but just minor stuff. as i went to pull out, it must have taken me like 20 mins to figure out where the friggin light switch was, lol. i so used to the giant rectangular black switch on the left side of my 74 super beetle. the car origionally had AC, so it had a bunch of those black knobs everywhere, and thought the light switch was just another vent knob, since they looked the same, hahaha. made me feel like a dumbass,

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
lol, yeah. i'll definataly be making a few changes. the main one being to take that EMPI POS fan shroud off, for an OE german shroud. as well as getting all the tins in place. other wise, i'll prolly do a little cleaning up, a little re-wiring, and fixing the little things that don't work (gas gauge, interior light, door handles (don't have a key for the door handles, so i have to keep it unlocked ), one brake light out, etc.)
