I started my car this morning and it ran fine. Started driving and shifted into 3rd and the car died. The motor will turn over but will not start. So I'm thinking fuel pump. Any other thoughts?

Check your distributor - make sure it didn't rise up and turn 180. I had that happen to me on the way into work one day.

If you think it's a fuel issue- check the small pin that is in the upright part of the pump, sometimes they fall out, and then the pump can"t pump. Every fuel pump I've had in the last few years has done this at one time or another. if you cant find the one that fell out, a small nut and bolt will get you home, and then some.....
Remember - if it won't run, it's a simple check list- air, fuel and spark!

Pull the fuel line off the carb, turn over the engine. If fuel is there then go to coil wire. Pull wire out of the center on dist cap hold close to the center opening and turn engine over if good spark is there then move on. Pull each plug wire off one at a time and turn engine over. If fire is on each plug wire move on.

If you are not getting fuel to the carb, back track the fuel line. (filter), (pump)

If you are not getting spark from coil wire then make sure you are getting power to the coil. If no power trace wires could be fuse.

If you are getting spark into the cap but not out , could be points, condensor, rotor button or cap.

As Don said before. if you have : fuel, fire, compression (air) it has to run.

I reuse the pin and clips out of junk fuel pumps to cure the problem.

also check to make sure the filter ain't clogged. happened to me. car died on me, took the filter off, pressed on throttle lever, and gas squirted, so fuel must be OK right. i check on everything else, and was at a loss. i try to start it, and it starts. so a few days later it happens again. same stuff over and over. i did this about three times, till, one day it happened again. so i keep pressing the throttle, and gas squirts, but then stops. it wasn't till then i realized the filter was clogged. so long story short, check the filter.
