79 Riviera "useliss"
ran across this turd a few months back and have been pretty busy with it and just never got around to posting it, bought it from a lady in Albany sight unseen and sent a buddy to pick it up, it had been sitting in the same spot since 1993 through a divorce where the ex-husband came and stole "the brand new engine and tranny he bought" but he left all the interior and the bus was surrounded by brush and had a sweet coat of moss that kept it pretty well protected from time, the nose of the bus was the only exposed part and it has paid the price of time.

Re: 79 Riviera "useliss"
No since the PO cleaned everything out of the engine bay, I had a 1800 built and used the Weber conversion, and had the tank redone and had the second port blocked off, however the conversion did not come with the risers, and only came with gaskets to the heads so I figured it was all it needed and I have been fighting an air leak because of it, I have the right risers now, and will try to tackle the install later today to get her back going, been frustrating trying to figure out the problem since I ruled out this scenario with purchasing an all inclusive kit.zabo wrote:love it - nice job cleaning it up- going with a FI engine?

Re: 79 Riviera "useliss"
well got the risers on and thought I had it all sealed up but it still wasnt right, decided I was gonna pull the carb and put a new kit in it, but decided to spray it again, and found a leak on the #3 intake tried to snug it up a bit and the stud came out along with the threads so I had Steve Cole tap it and put an oversized stud in, drove it home and was alot better, still has a bit of hesitation so I pulled all the jets I could find and blew them out, still is not 100% but I think its good enough to drive to work and back and maybe it will get better, gonna check with Steve Sands to see if the jets that are in there are what they should be, im sure there still trash in there somewhere, leason learned, when getting a VW thats been sitting for 20 years dont just drain whats in the tank and rely on the filter to clean the tank.

I didn't know what the M plate decoder was until now. Looks cool.
Wish there was something similar to this for a bug.

as far as I know the only way is to order the birth certificate from VW, $60 USD or so.

Re: 79 Riviera "useliss"
yeah, had Steve Sands bore the main jet yesterday and put a new base gasket and new boots on and it went to the better side of things, gonna keep rolling it to ready for the trip to BAP, got all the turn signals, brake and running lights functional, got the blower on and running, just need to get it hooked to the boxes, fired the coleman heater up and camped in her last night in the driveway with all the boys and the dog

I need to get the blower I got from Jarome hooked up. I plugged it in but it won't kick on. I know it works just needs power.
