Sticking Brake pedal
I have great brakes on my car. Disk on the front and 68 drum on rear. I have to reach down and pull the pedal the rest of the way out to keep the brakes from dragging. They really don't drag to bad but I think its enough to cause brake heat and unnecessary wear.
Also these disk pads sure do cause a lot of dust. More than I remember from my 68 I had back in the 80's.
Not sure if its the pedal or the Master Cylinder.

Re: Sticking Brake pedal
I would start by rebuilding the pedal cluster and replacing the return spring while its apart. Just did this last year, its not too hard and in my case, greatly improved the pedal action on brake, clutch and accel.

Re: Sticking Brake pedal
dont know if they are available, but ceramic pads (not race pads, just ceramic replacements) will produce much less dust.

Re: Sticking Brake pedal
Hey Digger, Return spring for the clutch or brake? I don't have a spring on my pedal cluster. AH!

Re: Sticking Brake pedal
You can find a kid with a trampoline, swipe one of the springs and hook one end on the pedal and the other to your seat. Problem solved.
Re: Sticking Brake pedal
Has the residual pressure valve been removed from your master cylinder? That will also cause your disc brakes to drag. My kit from SoCal Auto Parts had a larger bore Bus master cylinder and it still had the valve in it, causing my brakes to drag (only the front discs). The rotors got hot enough to smell them and it started to lose grease from the hubs. Removing the valve cured everything.

Re: Sticking Brake pedal
Hey 57RTOval, I'm not sure what you are talking about, there is nothing on the outside to remove other than the tubes that hook to the reservoir? I think my problem is the spring. I have it on the clutch, but it already has a return spring on the trans and the pressure plate will help push it back also.
I've checked my rotors when I get home and they are cool to the touch, not hot at all. I'm going to move that spring, I'm sure thats it. Now I think the brake dust is from the pads them selves. Now that I know the pedal is keeping pressure on the brakes I reach down and pull it back. So there is no real dragging. My wife's Astro van is real bad with brake dust, on all four wheels! May try to find some Ceramic or Metallic type pads.
BTW, I have great braking power, so much so that I can't slide the fronts. It just stops!!
Eat your heart out Ferdinand Porsche! I love European brakes!
Update
I have tracked down my brake pedal problem, it is the spring. It goes behind the brake pedal. I moved it a couple minutes ago and it returns perfect.

Re: Sticking Brake pedal
Sounds like the pedal spring will cure your problem.
The residual pressure valve is buried deep within the master cylinder. It's the last part that will come out when you disassemble it. Don't worry about it. Fix your pedal spring first and see if that fixes it.
