Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
bought a little truck today.has some bad gas in it so i was draining the bad gas out (outside my garage right next to my 1960 bug) looked over at my dog next thing i know Pooof all i seen was a 14 foot wall of fire. i ran and got my water hose and got it put out in a matter of minuites (with the help of my fire ext. in my bug ..lol) needless to say burnt truck and burnt bug im okay and thats all that matters.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
my dogs fine. i ment it as i looked over at my dog and by the time i looked back at the truck it and my bug already caught fire. my first reaction was to push my bug out of the fire...lol but the damn ebrake was on. im fine few small burns on my arm and hands. havent really looked at the bug or truck bc it was dark but i know it melted some of the paint and clear off the bug and melted a rear tire a bit.fluxcap wrote:Dang dude. They look nice and shiny! Chrome shops always seem to take forever. Who did you use? I used southern bumper exchange for some smaller trim pieces once. They took forever as well, but the finish has held up great 7 years later.

They ran about 600 for the whole lot, and bead blast the little mounting brackets too. I went with Industrial Metal Finishing in Augusta, GA.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Shiney. I like them.
The '71 Westy is coming along. After doing the top and installing the tent it sat for a week. My wife made all the curtains and today we insulated it and started putting the panels back up. She took it to her friends house and said that on a steep hill the brakes did not do a good job holding the bus. I'm at a loss. The used booster that I got from bugeyed has helped a bunch and the more I read the more I hear that a firm pedal, no air in the lines and fresh fluid bleeding out is more than likely a booster issue. The one I got from him did not look like the one I pulled out so maybe it is a different one that is not spec'd for the '71. Gotta get that addressed. Need to turn up the rear torsion bars too. That looks like a job for a pro though. But, like I said, it is coming along nicely. She is looking forward to taking it camping soon.

$600 for all that is cheap. I was quoted that for one bumper.

Drove my bus for the first time.
Engine is in...all the lights work except turn signals(bad t/s switch I believe)
Brakes are all new and working
Interior is pretty much done
Started it up and drove it out of the shop today and around the property a little.......

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
You did a great job on the rear seat and side cabinet. She didn't want the big cabinet on the rear side of her 71 Westy so it went. Now there is a big hole to fill.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I picked up a wheel from Tim and pulled out my spare and sand blasted and painted them. I'm still deciding on tires, I'd like 205's but I'm thinking that's too big for a stock wheel. The pink L is my wife's side of the garage, to help her park.

I pick up a 76 bus last weekend. I'm cleaning it up but I do not know a lot about them. Airheads need some info on the pancake motor, info on where to get parts from.
