New Gal in Peachtree City

Hello - I am new to the forum - have posted a couple concerning items I am looking for, etc. I just purchased a 74 Sunbug. It is a daily driver and looks okay going down the road. The interior needs complete restoration however. My goal is all original - or like the original. If there are any other women out there who are doing this themselves, let me know! At 53, my kids (and grandkids) think I am crazy.

Perhaps I am.

I am, of course, looking for the coveted Sunbug emblem and shifter. I have an early 70s Hurst shifter if anyone is interested in a trade.

Welcome to the site! If you aren't busy this weekend come out with us we are cruising to Atlanta to the Waffle House Museum or we usually get together every 2nd Saturday in McDonough.

I would LOVE to! However, I want to wait until I can drive my Sunbug - which will probably be in 2 or 3 months. Thank you - I can't wait!

Yep - the one in the same. She purchased a late 70s convertible. I am glad she decided to sell. Very nice people. I hope to have it on the street within 2 to 3 months - and hopefully, will run into you guys!

By the Way - just wondering why are these 74 Sunbugs referred to as "Fatty" or "Fat Chick"?

Welcome, couple of us are just down the street in Newnan. I'll try and answer the "Fat Chic" question.

The Super Beetles came from the factory with McPherson Strut front suspension. B/C of this the front fenders and hood were re-designed in a way that made the nose of the car look fatter/wider/thicker, thus the "Fat Chic" was born. I have heard folks call all the late Bugs, '68 on, all Fat Chics but the term really refers to Supers.

I have a "Fatty" side.....

Hi guys - Thank you! I can not wait to actually get my Sunbug on the road -

Good morning - first of all, let me say "thank you" to all of you who have been so extremely helpful and welcoming. Even though I had given the people I was buying the Sunbug from a deposit plus we had a signed contract - in that they were to let me make payments for 2 months, I just found out that they sold it to someone else. They did give me the deposit back - I am just surprised that someone would so blatantly go back on their word. Sad that some "words" just aren't what they used to be.

I still hope to find a 70s or even 60s Beetle someday and if so - I'll be sure to let you guys know.

Well that is just not right, folks are crazy these days. If you are interested I would consider selling the Red Super Beetle pictured above.
