I was going to keep it 6 volt but with the new engine I'm going to 12 volt

Yeah set the car/engine up for 12v but use the regulator to power your vintage radio. Best of both worlds.
Re: My 66 beetle "Scooter"
I got the used 1600 dp in the baja and it runs nice. I built a 12 volt flasher relay setup for the 66 and converted all of the lights to 12 volt. I still have to do the windshield wiper and horn. I'm still trying to sell the baja so progress on the 66 is slow. here are some pics of the flasher relay Update: the horn turned out to be 12 volts already and got a voltage transformer for the wipers.

Re: My 66 beetle "Scooter"
I moved Scooter into the garage and got temporary seating the day I sold my 73. I picked up a box of parts from clyde to finish my engine and engine compartment. I picked up a 20# sandblaster from Harbor Freight. I got one wheel sandblasted and painted and a tire installed.

Re: My 66 beetle "Scooter"
I'm probably going to do a white interior and the blue's do not quite match but it still looks good. I'm more mechanicaly inclined than artistic. The wheel color is rustoleum gloss night tide. Once the rims have some wear and the car is shined up, it should look even better. I customized the empi hub cap with vw logo center caps from ebay. I got the hubcap's with the rims and I didn't want Empi on it

I've been busy working on the 66. I cleaned up the engine compartment. I'm getting ready to install the engine this weekend. I should be ready for the cruze the Coop show. No pictures this time, you can see it at cruze the coop.

Re: My 66 beetle "Scooter"
I got side tracked today. I went to a yard sale in Alpharetta and picked up a few things for the beetle. I got a siren, a distributor, a round vdo electric fuel gauge, and a holly dual progressive carb and intake to rebuild. Met ggaagg57. I did manage to get the engine installed with my wife's help. I should have scooter running tomorrow

Re: My 66 beetle "Scooter"
I been running around like a chicken with my head cut off working 10 hr days, but I managed to get a few things done. I installed my dome light, radio antenna, fixed my wipers, installed new rubber on the popouts and a new windshield and rubber. I fabricated a shifter for my little michelob tap handle and installed a quick shift kit. I ordered and recieved my seatbelts and I need to install them. I will post pictures later. In a non vw related matter I installed 2 sliding glass doors in my house as well

Re: My 66 beetle "Scooter"
Well, I was having some issues with my cross arm for the throw out bearing so I replaced it and it still squeals when I step in in the clutch. I know the transmission is bad, the output shaft has play, so I'm on the look out for another transmission. I'll see how this goes.

Re: My 66 beetle "Scooter"
well I'm a noob when it comes to transmissions. I didn't realize that there is play in the ouput shaft and that it should wobble a bit, as long as there is no in and out movement. The first crossarm was EMPI, enough said. I picked one up from Clyde and now It is centered and I'm in business. The engine goes back in tomorrow.

Re: My 66 beetle "Scooter"
I put new shocks on scooter a while back and saw that the top holes in the shock tower were rusted out. I picked up a used front beam for scooter this weekend. and stripped it down.
Now on to rebuilding it.
