I drilled the dimples out of the front beam so the inner coller would rotate and cut a slot in the beam, then welded in an adjuster over that. Used something like this......

It is real tight on the top adjuster to the shift rod. The shift rod on my Bus was just under the top tube so the adjuster in the mid position had some tention on it but I went back after lowering the rear and adjusted everything to the height that I liked and it had more clearance. I think I put the adjuster back in with the slot in the middle, meaning I could go back to the stock height or a little higher if needed.

Also when you do this there is an arm on the beam that is a bump stop that will need to be cut off.

The rear is just a couple clicks on the outer spline. Now narrowed beam none of that stuff. It rides just like it did before and that is what I was after. No rubbing at all right now but that was just me in it.

Note: When drilling out the dimples I removed the center pin bracket. Drilled out the dimple and welded it back in. I'm sure there is a better way to do this.

Finally covered my rear seat, made a make shift headliner and thought a table would be useful. Love my Bus love it!

Several items needed to be checked and replaced so I parked the Bus for a week and pulled the Engine and trans. The Alternator was making a bad noise after start up but would quiet down after warm up. There were some bumper bolts that would not thread in so I tapped those. Cleaned up the fuel line with a metal line and moved the filter out under the tank. Installed new CVs, Boots grease and bolts. Painted the axles and cleaned the trans. Also pulled the shift rod, I had purchased new bushings and installed a better coupler. The last thing was to get my backup lights working and that was also accomplished. Cleaned all the non heat paint off the muffler and painted it. I finished most of that list Sat and today I reinstalled the apron, bumper and muffler. I remounted my tag after clear coating it, it was about 1-1/2" off from the center of the deck lid. I had drained the tank so it was time to check and see how accurate the gauge actually is. I put in 2 gl and noted the reading. Then added 2 more gallons. After adding 7.75 gls my gauge will go well below empty before running out. That is if it stays consistent! When I would fill it up and the needle didn't go all the way to the full line(1/1). Found out that the amount less on the full side is the same amount below the empty. Bus tanks hold 15.8 gls.

Drove the Bus this afternoon, lot quieter now that the alternator and CVs are new. Have I told you guys that I love this Bus?

Work on the Bus is ongoing...
Needed to finish the interior panels so the smell of the glue would be gone in time for the Halloween Camp out.

I got the walk through padding installed and I must say that it turned out nice. This will make it nice and cozy. It also cuts down on road and engine noise.

Cut and covered my mattress topper/memory foam bedding. I've sleep in this Bus a few times now and it is nice and comfy!!

Also got the heat hooked up, I had to make a pipe that goes from jack point to point under the cargo area. The PO had cut it out it looks like it was rusted totally away. A dryer duct from Home Depot was perfect. The pipe has a seam and it comes unhooked so I used hose claps to reduce the size down so it would fit into the old pipe, then I loosened the claps to let it out some to make a tight seal and not move around. I had saved the OG pipe insulation so I put it on and used zip ties to hold in place. The heater boxes have a bungy cord holding them open. Took it out for a test drive and it has a little air flow coming out of the dash vents. Might be loosing some air through the pipe. Might have to look for a conduit size that will work.

Thanks guys, the carpet on the cargo floor is glued to a 1/4" sheet of Lauan. The cargo mat is under it so if I need to haul something dirty I can take out the carpet and the mat is ready to go.

Thanks guys, here are some of the things that I did that is under the carpeting.
Hardboard panels.

Make patterns then cut out the hardboard and cover. I pre-drilled the mounting holes and installed the panels with screws first, the carpet is thick when rolled over the edge so the panel is a bit smaller than the opening it will fit into.

Sound damping, (roofing/flashing) from Home improvement store.

I covered the fuel inlet tube first, the rest of the carpet overlapped this area. The line is to make sure to get the piece back into place after dry fit and trim. When you use contact cement it is just that "Contact" and it's there! You coat both halves and it will dry to the touch then it is ready to stick together!

Did you plug or bypass the vents under the rear seat? I don't have those vents, and I had great air flow coming out of the front vents. Still though, there is so much more interior space in the bus, that the heat system isn't really too efficient. Feet stayed warm, and you could warm your hands up over the defrost vents, but it took a LONG time for the bus to start feeling warm.

I have the vents pluged. I'm sure if I open them up I'll get better air flow but nothing to the front and on the windscreen. Worked ok this morning but when it's 12deg out I'll be freezing. Going to find a better solution for a pipe. Also need to run a vacuum hose in the duct work to see if there are any obstructions.

Wow I'm needing something for curtains and that is it!

Thanks guys, all I can say is when you go look at a project you have to go thru the rebuild process in your head and always think about the final result. I try and find the problem areas and go thru the repair process accessing the cost and time for the repair. I believe if you do this before you buy the project it keeps those overwhelming projects at bay. My wife went with me to look at this Bus and she was not happy that this Bus would replace the '71 I had purchased about 8 months before but I knew what was at the end of the tunnel. I'm thankful I went and looked at it. I always seem to procrastinate and never go look at these things and they turn out to be diamonds under the rust. She too can't believe it is the same Bus and she likes it more than a Bug. More room and it has a functional side as well. Love it couldn't imagine being with out it.

Well Moto will be down for a few weeks. Some weird crap is going on with the right rear. When I go around a curve to the right the right trialling arm makes a bumping sound and a breathing sound, like air moving in and out of the CV boot. It has done this since the Tampa trip and a few weeks after I noticed that it was covered with gear oil. So it's coming out. I haven't had any more problems with it popping out of 4th so I'm going to reseal it with new seals and a gasket kit. Inspect everything, CVs, mounts and fix some other stuff while the engine is out. Might even finally build the engine for it. I hate being down to one ACVW (Super B) but I'll have to wing it for a few weeks.
