Randy's 59 Scab
Picked this jersey looker up a few days before Thanksgiving but just finally got it in my garage. I have been slowly pulling all the jersey stuff off....not sure if its going to get slammed or ride it stock so I can venture down the many dirt roads around here.....its a truck and I am definately going to use it as one....
Anyway it is a 59 that was originally grey and now a terrible blue. I do know that it is going to get the hacks fixed asap so I have to get some wheel wells, engine vents, metal around engine, a little dogleg metal, and fill in the awesome tail lights. The main concern is the hit it took around the gas fill up. It will need that entire panel from the corner seam to the start of the treasure chest opening.
I am putting safaris in it though as it didn't come with either front window....which is perfectly fine with me. The truck does run and move under its own power but will need a general going through. I think I may just get the safaris, engine metal and fix the tail lights and start riding and fix the rest along the way.
Picked these four 15s up for it today to go along with the one crows foot that was in the treasure chest!

Re: Randy's 59 Scab
Nice ! How many singlecabs are on this forum now? We will have to form a completely seperate club for all of us. Sweet tail lights by the way. I think you should rock that jersey look!

Oh yeah I forgot to say a big thanks goes to Doodle Bugg for the lead on this scab.
Re: Randy's 59 Scab
Man that's a big ol cut in the rear wheel wells. Must have had monster truck tires on it at some point! Hurry up and get those safaris. Got to see how much I like them before I decide if I want some or not

Its not so much the color as all of the scratches, dents and rust/paint flaking that's under the blue.....All of it has to come off

I agree, leave it as is. You'll fix it, then the Jersey look will come back into style (hopefully long after we're all dead) and some poor sucker is just gonna have to cut all that metal all over again!

Very nice. I'm sure you will do it justice! Are you sure you're going to keep it, doesn't look like it has enough rust! LOL

You'll love the safari's. I run mine wide open. The only downfall is a wasp or hornet as they don't hit the back of the cab hard enough to kill them so they just jump across the seat while pissed off looking for someone to sting.

Re: Randy's 59 Scab
I haven't work on the single any lately. Mostly just trying to gather up some parts for it. I did get a good deal on a rear apron from Hank for it a little while back....thanks again!
Doodle Bugg has got my stock wheels and is going to blasting them for me. Then I have to get me some clips and get some paint on them. I am working on getting a set of 5 6.70 x 15 bias plys to go on them. I also picked up some stock style round mirrors, arms and clamps from bug-eyed yesterday.
Also scored an oil bath from an early 60s bus from the neighbor across the street. Just went by there one day and saw it on his rail and we struck a deal for one of my stock bug oil baths!

Re: Randy's 59 Scab
Started working on the brakes today so I can get it mobile. It runs just doesn't stop. So I broke loose both rear axle nuts....found out that it has at least big nut boxes on it.... Took an hour with a mini sledge, a two arm puller, impact and air hammer to get one drum off.....What a pain. I decided to leave the other for another day....hahaha The shoes were shot and the wheel cylinder had been leaking. I am just going to hone and rebuild the wheel cylinders. I just ordered the seal kits, new shoes front and rear, four new hoses and a bay master cylinder...152 bucks shipped to the door!

Re: Randy's 59 Scab
Took the carb apart yesterday and soaked it until today....got home and put it back together and on the scab.....had to cut the plunger off the idle cut off cause it didn't work....also set the timing and replaced the vacuum caps on the carb and intake
The scab is idling great now! Got to finish the brakes up, install a better muffler and order some tail lights so I can test drive this thing around the block

Re: Randy's 59 Scab
If any of your wheel cylinders are not re-buildable, let me know. I got a full set that can be rebuilt...

Alright sounds good!
Re: Randy's 59 Scab
Got the tail lights ordered. I forgot to mention that I picked up some engine vents a while back. Also got the junky beetle exhaust off and a temporary header and muffler on there......it sounds so much better now!
Re: Randy's 59 Scab
Ordered the front tranny mount adapter so I can get rid of the junky mount that is on there now and correctly install the later trans. Now I can get the engine and tranny shifted back forward where should go.
Also stepped up and ordered front and rear stainless safaris!
