I had to shorten my rods because they ran out of adjustment.

Eric, That is awesome. I like the stance, I need to look into some flipped spindles.

I am tackling brakes tomorrow. Hope to have the same results.

Thanks guys. I'm hoping to get the new master cylinder and the rest of the brake lines installed next week, and weld in the battery trays. Once I've got my work done in the engine compartment, I'll pull the rear drums and do those brakes and lower the rear 1 spline. After that, I need to weld closed just a few small holes, install all the windows, install seatbelts, fix some wiring, and install the engine.

Wow, that's nuts that it knocks everything out of whack that much. I know on the outer ends that I had to rotate, they both still had a lot of threads, so hopefully I can get by with just adjusting them. I had to shorten the ones on the bug when I narrowed my beam, so if it comes to that, it's no big deal.

They worked but they were just a wee bit out. Mabey 1/2 an inch was all I needed to get the toe in right for alignment.

Did my front end alignment last night. It wasn't really as far off as I had previously thought. Came really really close to running out of threads on the passenger side, but luckily didn't need to shorten it, and still have a little room in case I need to adjust it again. Had to remove the passenger side door mechanism. When I locked it from the inside, the outside button would still open the door. Turns out the springs on the mechanism were really gummed up with grime and paint overspray, and the lock piece was sticking. Cleaned it up real good and it works like it should now! Also played around with Doodlebugs nuts for a bit Shocked . The baywindow spindle nuts he gave me fit perfectly, so now I have clamp style spindle nuts rather than the pain in the butt old system of two thin spindle nuts and locking tab. Thanks again Doodle!

Spent a few hours on the rear today. Got the brake hardware all removed and pulled the backing plate and bearing housing. Removed the RGB from the spring plate and let the spring plate down.

66 Camper Bus "Bocephus" - Page 3 CIMG1912

Spring plate is at rest, so I checked my angle. One outer notch is equal to 7.5 degrees, so I pulled the springplate, installed new inner and outer bushings and rotated it up one spline. Checked the angle and everything checked out so I bolted it back down.
66 Camper Bus "Bocephus" - Page 3 CIMG1913

Here's where my bumpstop now rests and this is with the bus still on jackstands. Probably gonna be sitting on it when I get it back down on the ground. What do most people do here? I can remove it all the way or cut it down some.
66 Camper Bus "Bocephus" - Page 3 CIMG1915

Brought my backing plates back home with me so I could clean them up and repaint them. Hope to get them back on and the new brakes installed in the next couple of days, and then set it back on the ground.

Cool, that's probably what I'll do also. If it still hits or gets mangled, I can always just pull it off later.

Don't think hitting is going to be much of an issue. If I remember correctly, it's hollow and really doesn't have much "stopping" power after you cut it.

Yeah, I cut some off the ones on the bug after I lowered it. Was working under there a while back and noticed I must have hit the one on the passenger side. It had split like a peeled banana Laughing

Nice Eric. Can not wait to see what it looks like back on the ground. You are doing exactly what I want to as far as ride height.

Shouldn't be much longer. Had a couple of free hours today so installed the new axle seals and got the brakes installed on the drivers rear side. Also re-indexed the spring plate on the passenger side. Just need to do the axle seals and install the brakes on that side and I'll be ready to set it back on the ground. I'm anxious to see how it sits. It was a super tight fit getting the driver side wheel back on squeezing it between the drum and wheel-well. Should hopefully get it finished up Wednesday.

Rear brakes and axle seals are all done!
66 Camper Bus "Bocephus" - Page 3 CIMG1974

Got the drum back on and put it down on the ground. Not low or slammed by any means, just a mild drop. One outer spline, which is supposed to be 7.5 degrees on the springplate and roughly 2 inches. Has a slight rake, but I'm hoping the rear will settle just a tad more when the engine goes in. My workspace is very long, but not incredibly wide, so it's hard to get a good side shot to really see how it looks.

66 Camper Bus "Bocephus" - Page 3 CIMG1975

Axles are pretty much level coming out of the transaxle.
66 Camper Bus "Bocephus" - Page 3 CIMG1980

Ordered some new shocks the other day to replace the rusted useless ones on there currently. Should be here soon. Next on the list I'm going to clean/wire brush as best I can the undercarriage, then give it the rust bullet treatment. Then finish installing the new brake hardlines, then get the battery trays welded in, etc.... The list is getting longer the more I work on it. Laughing
