Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
Yeah, I still have most of it except the closet. But it's all pretty raunchy and probably isn't of much use.

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
Finally working on a little more rot repair. Phillip picked me up a dogleg section while he was at NoDough/Bulli (thanks again!), so that's what I'm working on.
Before
Crunchy looking
Cleaned up, you can see the holes better
Out with the old. Drain holes must have been clogged, cause there was a LOT of grit and grime built up in there. One good sized hole on the rear inner corner of the dogleg I'll have to patch up, but the rest of the inner structure was still in good shape.
Repair section ready to install. I rust treated the inside with Ospho and will get some paint in there to try to protect it. Hope to get this tacked in place shortly afterward.

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
Got the rot in the nose cut out and welded in my patch panel. Picture makes it look nicer than it actually is. I got to learn how to control the heat better and keep patch panels from warping. Gonna take a little filler to get this straight, but atleast it'll have solid metal under there!

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
Finally wrapped up the metal work on the nose, dogleg, and drivers door. Tried my luck at painting again and it turned out a little better than the side panels, but still going to need to wet sand and buff it out. (paint job looks much better in the pic than it does in person ) I'm totally burned out on body work, so it'll likely be a while before I start on the rear corners.

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
My hourly rates are super high, and I work at a snails pace. Oh, and while your bus is at my garage/shop, I'll likely pull your engine and use it to cruise around in my bus at high speed. If you are ok with these stipulations, bring it on!
But seriously, I'm happy the rust, primer, and 3 different shades of red are gone, but its no paint job I'd ever want to have paid for!

Looks good dude but when are you going to put the golden arches on the side?
Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
Now that the front of the bus is done, I was gonna take a break from body work for a while, but a nice rear corner popped up on the samba, so I bought it for donor metal and started working on the rear drivers corner.
Had some bad rot along the edge where the decklid closes that required the outer skin and inner brace to be replaced.
Out with the old
started disecting the donor corner. This thing had a super nice battery tray that I wanted to save, but it ended up getting mangled. Just to many damn spotwelds.
In with the replacement inner brace.
and the replacement outer
Also cut out a section of rot along the corner and put in a patch
Still needs a little more grinding and a skim coat and this corner will be ready for fresh paint.
Other corner is covered in thick bondo already, gonna have to tear into it and see what's hiding behind it.

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
Finally got busy working on the passenger side rear corner. It had some really thick bondo, but the good news is that it was just some dents. No cancer at all on this side, so no welding!!! Beat the dents out as best I could then smoothed it over using maybe 1/10 the amount of filler that had been there before. Prepped and painted it this morning. Should have it wetsanded and matching the rest of the bus this week.
All the old bondo gone!

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
Haha, thanks Tim. My bodywork is far from high quality, but it's good enough for a driver/camp machine. I'm just happy to be getting rid of some of the rust and other issues. Still have one small patch I need to weld in on an inner dogleg and a crossmember I'd like to replace, but I'll get to those eventually.

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
You sure do better auto bodywork than I could ever do. To be honest, I wouldn't even know where to start.
Great job, Eric!

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
No progress updates, just been enjoying it!!!
Took the bus to PCB last weekend and stayed at St. Andrews State Park for 4 nights. Bedroom and transportation on the right, kitchen and living room on the left!
The animals loved the bus.
Met up with the guys from the German Metal VW Club and went to an all makes car show at Spinnakers. That's Scott's old single cab on the left.
Winston was happy when we came to pick him up on the way home.
