Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
Haha, that was Kelly's doing. There is a small rip in the vinyl right there, so the pillow covers it up!

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
Front and rear bumpers are on! Sandblasted and painted. Really need some replacement uprights as these ones have seen better days, but at least they are one color now and not covered in rust.
My draglink is supposed to be delivered today, so hopefully I can get the steering back together tonight. After BAP, I plan to get the top cleaned off and painted. Then start below the beltline. Trying to find another color for the lower section so I can quit looking like a McDonalds advertisement.

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
Not sure yet on the color. I don't really mind the color it is now, but I can't find a rattle can that comes close. Just trying to clean up a panel at a time and address the rust, and rattle can it for the time being (until I get the $$$ for a decent paint job). Kelly is not a fan of the color at all though. I had put some rustoleum rusty metal primer on in a few places. It was a medium brown color and actually looked good against the cream color. Kelly wants a shade of green. I'm cool with green, just need to find a shade that goes with the cream color.

What is the factory original color of the bus?

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
It was originally pearl white from the factory, still has the sticker behind the passenger seat. Some panels still have the original color under the 5 or so layers of resprays

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
I'd say go with the original pearl white...imo. Here is a pic I have been saving in my collection b/c i like the stance of this bus. I'll have mines looking like this one i get my BRM's mounted up and check to see how low I can get it. Can't go to low b/c of of the crazy amount of speed bumps in my neighborhood.

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
I do like the white, but the wife has already decided on agave green for the final color once we get the rust repairs done and it's ready for a real paint job. The two tone spray job is just temporary so I can do a panel at a time and try to keep it somewhat presentable. The sweet cream krylon I'm using for the top sections is very close to the color that was on the bus when I got it, so it blends pretty well. Can't find anything to match the bottom, so I'm just going to go with a different color all together. I'd do the whole thing in sweet cream, but apparently it's been discontinued and I can only find it online for twice the price of what krylon usually sells for in stores, plus the shipping.

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
I think that's mango green on the bottom and seagull grey on top. I've been looking at that color.
After bap, I'm just gonna find all the green spray bombs I can and do some test sprays on a door or something until I find one I like (or try to talk kelly into the brown color I found already).

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
Starting working on my interior templates a few hours in the evening this week. The interior pieces that came with the bus are in really really poor shape and completely unusable. Some edges are broken and frayed so before I start cutting my good baltic birch pieces, I'm making better templates out of cheapo paneling. Here's the start of my closet template. Turned out decent, ended up re-cutting the hole for the door to make it a little bit longer which is why the paneling on the front doesn't line up. Still need to finish the rear section by adding a door and a few shelves, but it's getting there.

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
Been doing a little here and there on the bus in the evenings the last few weeks.
Finally got my wardrobe closet finished. Well, this is just the template done out of paneling, so I guess it won't really be finished until I do it out of my birch, but I'm lazy so there's no telling when I'll get around to that.
Redid the face of the closet side and also recut the door so the lines matched.
Started stripping the roof so I can get it all one color. Did some test sanding in a few places and found some hidden rust, so I decided to just take the whole thing down to bare metal. Took about a whole gallon of aircraft stripper. Didn't want to get to close to the drip rails with the stripper for fear it would run over and mess up the other paint, so I still need to sand those areas. Then I can phospho the whole thing, put a skim coat of filler along the rail where I welded up all the holes from the button snaps and tent mounts, then prime and krylon!
some of the rust patches.

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
Interior is coming along very nice.
You going to spray can the entire roof? Your index finger is going to be ripped. I could spray it for you if it was prepped. What color are you doing?
I just bought a QT of Single stage Cumulus white for my bus and reducer, hardener and all was $55.00. So not sure how much the cans will cost you. Same prep work.

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
Thanks! Yeah, the roof is just going to be the same Krylon Sweet Cream color that the mid section is. I found out this color was discontinued shortly after I started repainting the mid section, so I bought up every can I could find, so I already have the paint. Thanks for the offer though! This is just temporary (hopefully no longer than a couple of years) so it should come off easily when I'm ready for the real paint job.

Not so ripped, but quite numb . There's a few other cans in the trash.type901 wrote:

Before:
Stripped to bare metal, rust addressed, quick (not perfect) skim coat around a few shallow dings, and a quick (also not perfect) spray bomb job.
Now all one color atleast!
Going to take the rear hatch off this evening and respray it since a little paint stripper dribbled over onto it and messed up my high dollar krylon job. Already got the glass and seal out in one piece.

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
Thanks Michael!
I'm likely gonna redo the section above the front windows. Had a couple of small dings there and some bondo that I sanded out. My re-skim job looks pretty crappy so I'm gonna try and redo it before YU Buggin.

Re: 66 Camper Bus "Bocephus"
Got my new turn signals installed! I decided to get the nice german ones.
Old ones
New ones
Also got the correct clips from WW to hold the rear script on. Unfortunately, while messing with a makeshift clip a while back, I broke one of the studs off, so I made a new one. Yep, Bocephus is officially sporting some Mighty Putty
