Earlier the better....at least in my view. If are planning on dumping some money into a car I wouldn't look at any beetle made after 1967.
Re: Need help picking out a bug
I want to sink most of my money in to a split window bus. Nothing crazy but Ive been wanting one for ever and my wife gave me the thumbs up to get one.

Re: Need help picking out a bug
have you found a bus yet? if not i'd save the cash you want to spend on the bug and use it to get a somewhat dry bus from west of the mississippi shipped over here

Re: Need help picking out a bug
Is the reason most here are rusty because of age or humid from south or snow and salt? Ive been looking on the samba for one that's rust free or someone gave up trying to finish. I can do body work and paint. What motor is best on the bus. I thought I saw something about pan handel or something motor not being good and hard to work on.Ive been on the samba looking for the right deal on a bus. Ive got 5000 saved up so far. Good idea to go west of Mississippi. BTW I went to the bug-a -rama this weekend but got there at 3pm and only saw 1 car in the parking lot :-(

Re: Need help picking out a bug
its just the humidity over here its just a whole nother kind of rust than it is out west as far as engines go bigger is better as long as its done right. but just keep shopping around don't jump on the first thing you see, and just be sure you gets lots of pictures of everything if you're going to buy something sight unseen and get it shipped.
Re: Need help picking out a bug
Id def drive or fly to see it before purchase. Iv'e been wanting one since my friend early 60's model bus 10 years ago.Just started saving less then a year ago for it.is 1600cc the biggest stock motor? My friend had an old porshe motor in his bug.It was pretty darn quick.

Re: Need help picking out a bug
as far as i know yes 1600 is it for T1 upright engines and a well built 1600 would be good in a bus but if you're going to get an engine built you might as well go big or go home lol

When I get my "Brick" finished I'll let the machine speak..........Kyle! LOL
X2 on a West Coast, Arizona, New Mexico or Cali Bus. The more complete you start with the better off you will be. Here just pay Bryce a finders fee, you will end up with one hell of a deal either way.
West Coast decent Buses start around $9-10 G's!
