Not too shabby for a backyard paintjob. Next step is color sanding to remove all the skeeter legs!

Drove down to Columbus for a day trip. Visited the National Civil War Naval Museum....it was pretty cool. Stopped by the covered bridge on the way home. Not nearly as nice as NC! This bridge is south of Gay, off of 85 on Covered Bridge Rd. The other end of the bridge has a long wooden ramp that leads off to a dirt road. Think it is one of the longest bridges in the state.
We have heard that there is another covered bridge south of Thomaston but have not searched that one out yet. Anybody know of that one?

Spent some time grinding welds and hammered the towbar angles off the Type 181 front bumper. Looks much better smoothed out and now it's time to attach the new Thing Shop push bar.

I am amazed at how much brighter my signals are now- I never knew the contacts were that bad in my old one.

Finally quit being lazy and put the new shift coupler in under the back seat. Trying to see if that would fix the grind I get when shifting into 2nd gear. Old one did have some slop in it, so I was optimistic the new coupler would do the trick. It's better, and the shifter is super tight with no side to side wobble. Unfortunately, it still grinds when downshifting to 2nd. Guess it's just the syncro going out. Also rechecked the shift rod bushing and it still looked brand new so at least I didn't have to replace that!

Pulled out the battery tray that I had just screwed in and did it right. Took half a day to get it pounded into the right shape and welded in. Had to make a few other patches to fix holes in the pans. Took the motor out and flipped the pan up on it's side to finish welding the underside. While its' up on it's side I was thinking about putting an undercoating on it. Any suggestions for a cheap undercoating? I was just gonna put a layer of POR-15 and then a rattle can undercoating.

Post by pwmcguire Sun Jul 24, 2011 10:07 pm

I fixed the shifter coupler that left me stranded going to work on Saturday. the bolt fell out of it, I stopped at the red light at jiles and 41 in Kennesaw and could not find first or second, second was reverse, I found third and moved the mistress enough to get into Walgreens parking lot Sad

Easy fix.
