E-Brake not holding
So before I tear my center console out, is there a simple reason why my E-Brake lever is no longer staying up? (No Viagra Jokes Please).
The brake works when I hold the lever up so I know it isn't the cable, but the mechanism just doesn't seem to be clicking with the button release anymore?
Can this be adjusted/fixed or is a new assembly required?

Re: E-Brake not holding
If it's the same as a Beetle hand brake then there is a locking mechanism that engages with the teeth. You should be able to see the teeth I'm talking about with the brake held up wile looking under the handle near the pivot point. Occationally, if you pull the brake too far up, the catch that stops it from dropping back down will flip around in the brake handle and will no longer catch the splines. A tell tale sign is that it doesn't make the zipping sound as you pull the brake up. The remedy, as I remember, is to take all the slack out or remove (make sure the cables don't fall into the tunnel) the nuts that hold the cables and pull the handle up as far as it will go in order flip the catch back around.

Re: E-Brake not holding
X2. happend to me a few times. the part labeled #2 will flip around if the lever is held up too far. in my case, i adjusted it all the way out and it still went to high. the cables were stretching, and eventually the cable just snapped from being stretched to far. so in your case, it might be a sign of the cables stretching, and bout to snap. or you may just need to adjust them. either way.
