Re: Sily Räbit - The SwallowTale
I'll keep an eye out for 16v's for you. Never had one myself, have always had 8v's because they were cheaper.

Re: Sily Räbit - The SwallowTale
well i have a 8v, but im thinking it maybe cheaper/ a little easier to go with a 16v since i have all the wiring and mounts for a 16v along with a head, which im not sure is any good. and i also have an intake set up. so, i don't know, i want this thing to move but I never have rode in an 8v mk1, so im not sure what im working with. I'm not looking for drag fast, but just fun to drive fast. if i keep the 8v i'll deff put a carb on it just to make it old skoollaith wrote:I'll keep an eye out for 16v's for you. not alot of progress to be seen but its there.

smoothed bay some more, removed the tar paper sound deading (took for ever!)
(guide to body filler...apply, sand off 90%,repeat.....)
fixed some surprise rust
filled the rear markers
now they are gone! yay! (but still need smoothing out more)
sorry pics are terrible, I cant remember my camera!

yea, it was a show car back in the day... but some of the POs let it go, the last owner started on it and gave up, so i'm hoping to get this little back out on the road!

Re: Sily Räbit - The SwallowTale
I found some Enkei 92s quickly i think they will help keep the cars look in its time period. two of the wheels have some curb rash but one if just cosmetic and the other is straight up bent, so i'll have to see about getting it fixed. any recomendations on wheel shops? the tires are way to big for my use so they will be taken off and some 165 45s will replace them (did i mention the car will be slammed?) I cleaned up the lips on the wheels tonight and painted one of them to see what it would look like, i painted it a pastel white, i'm thinking i'll probably go with a pure white instead (glad i didnt have time to do all of them, seeing as i just changed my mind, changing timing belt/water pump on the jetta took most of the day)

They are 15" and either 6.5" or 7" wide I'm not sure at the moment, but I should find out tomarrow hopefully I'll have time to get the tires taken off, they have an offset of 35

Re: Sily Räbit - The SwallowTale
got some more work done today. had the tires dismounted and found out the wheels are 15x6 et35 which gives me more room than i originally thought i had (which is a good thing!) so i took some mock up pics
and finally i pulled out the paint gun, not bad for my first sray sessesion (using a real setup neway aka "non-aresol" lol)
im gunna post a lot pics cuz the color is hard to capture, it really brightens in sunlight its l51c miami blue btw
it will need another coat as i missed some spots but owell, but it looks much better to me
i also started dissembling the engine
let me know what you guys think
a few more paint pics on the Bucket (<- Link)

Re: Sily Räbit - The SwallowTale
$300 seems like a steal to me. If I wasn't knee deep in 8v parts I would go for it.
buggin70 if you buy it and don't want/need the tranny let me know.

Re: Sily Räbit - The SwallowTale
Sorry, no carb stuff. For rebuild kits, you might try busdepot.com or thepartsbin.com.

Re: Sily Räbit - The SwallowTale
actually i haven't but you can get the same kit from redline for like 350 but thanks for the heads up, christmas shopping is eating me money! lol so i'll have to wait on the carb. and my parents say they are not buying presents for the car (something about a gallon of paint not looking all that great under the tree )
got a little bit done today...
polished on the wheels and started painting another one
i cut down an old bumper i had, mostly for s&(#@* and giggles, but i kinda like how it turned out, definitely needs more work but i plan on doin the same for the rear until i can afford to get small euros
and finally i just set some parts back on the car to build up some motivation, body work is taking a toll, i cant seem to get it straightened out owell

Re: Sily Räbit - The SwallowTale
it's been awhile since ive posted but i have made some major progress, hoping this may liven up the thread!
since ive been out of school i have replaced the two rear corners of the car and completed the rest of the body work, and for xmas my parents gave me a box of paint! yippeee!
so naturally i dug out a heater, and started priming the car, blocked it and started laying the color (l51c Miami Blue) with help from my buddy Blake
so this is what i ended up with... i still need to do some wet sanding and buffing (a lot of orange peel) but i think for our first paint job it turned out great! there are some runs but they will buff out fairly easy...
on to the pics
and naturally i had put some chrome on it and a few other things
more on the photobucket, comments welcome
Enjoy
