Shoe to Drum Gap
The new shoes are tapered at the ends.
This leaves a 2.75mm gap at the end of each shoe. Is this normal?
My drums have almost 5mm of surface left. Does anyone know if this is OK or the specs?

Re: Shoe to Drum Gap
Here are some specs I found on the samba. I don't have my bently around to verify, but I found these specs in more than one thread so they are probably right.
Factory specs are:
New inside diameter = 230mm. (9.055")
Maximum inside diameter is 231.5mm (9.103")
Minimum "wall thickness" is 4mm.
I also read that there should be some specs stamped on the drum itself, may be covered in grime though.

Re: Shoe to Drum Gap
Thanks Flux, I researched it more and found the same thing. Looks like I have a mm or so........or more left and I think that is plenty for steel. I'm not going to turn them this go round so I should be OK. Also, I found nothing on the drums......aftermarket I suppose.fluxcap wrote:

Re: Shoe to Drum Gap
As your picture shows, the newer shoes don't have the exact contour of the drum. This will cause the middle of the shoes to do all the work until they wear down so the whole shoe is hitting the drum when you put on the brakes. It is no big deal; you just have to adjust the brakes as the wear occurs.
