Lesson Learned
As some of you may know I have been working on a 1970 Beetle. Well last week with the help of DiggerD the floor pans were installed, and today I applied the undercoating paint for rust prevention. Here is the lesson, when applying this paint wear gloves. The paint does not come off. I have tried soap, comet, mineral spirits, paint thinner, gas, MEK, OPPS and Nail Polish remover. If anybody else has had this problem and has had luck removing the paint I would like to know how. I have been told by a few people with experience with this product that I am S.O.L. The only way for it to be removed is for it to wear off. Lesson Learned THE HARD WAY

Re: Lesson Learned
I've been there, though not quite as bad. Unfortunately you are screwed and will be grossing out your lunchmates all next week. On the plus side, your pan looks great

Re: Lesson Learned
I agree with above- and if the lunchmates are too critical- just ask if they want to see your underside :Rockit: !
Re: Lesson Learned
well, i've never gotten undercoating on my hands, but i always get paint on them. and i've found the only real way i can get it off, is to just rub my hands together hard, and fast. so fast till your hands get hot, and keep going. it should start to flake off. it deosn't get it all off, but usually get the majority of it off. then the rest i can usually get off with goop. not the smooth kind, but the gritty orange kind. its usually rough enough, so i rub my hand with it hard and fast again. and if that doesn't work, then i guess your screwed ,

Re: Lesson Learned
You must be lefthanded....
I did the same thing that you did, but it was truck bedliner. I believe that I used:
1) Denatured alc.
2) a green scotchbrite pad,
I believe that this removed about 40%
the rest was removed with a swiss army knife blade at a safe angle and I scrapped it off.
Yeah, it works but I've been a woodworker for 8 years and I have some pretty narfley calluses.
This gets it off with about a 90%, the rest you have to wear off. (I wear those manley yellow heavy dishwahing gloves now for this type stuff...)

Re: Lesson Learned
Yeah, I forgot to pass along that little tidbit of info about the undercoating. When I did the pans in the 74, I used elbow-length rubber gloves, the only spot I got on me was when I put my Knee in a spot that dripped on the floor, (wearing shorts) but that was easy to hide, unlike your grubby hands!!

Re: Lesson Learned
I guess the paint will have to wear off, but the pan looks great!
Hope it's the only time that you get it up on 2 wheels!

Re: Lesson Learned
I meant to comment on the pan work a while ago. It looks very nice!!!! Great job!!!
Re: Lesson Learned
In case anyone is looking for this like I was, I have discovered how to get rubberized undercoating off when your hands have been washed and it is already dry. I made a paste with creamy petroleum jelly and baking soda. I then dipped a towel into it and scrubbed. It doesn't come off easily, it took about 15 minutes but it is about 99% gone.

Re: Lesson Learned
Sorry guys caught this late, but or future reference-Got this stuff from Grainger I think. It's made by Permatex that's called Paint Off. May not have worked in this application but is good to have around. Comes in a blue bottle and is like regular Orange or whatever, but is not harmful and doesn't burn or anything. Works wonders on stains. Also, if you don't have any cuts, GoofOff works too.
