I hope there is still hope
So I recently acquired a Volkswagen sand rail and have very little knowledge or for what that's worth experience with Volkswagens. Volkswagens been sitting in someone's yard for the last 3 years it belong to his best friend who died and we have no way to get in touch with any of his other family it has never been registered and does not have a VIN but I was hoping to use the VIN number off the engine and get a 1078 and a 1022 - B forum I'm trying to get it registered that way. If anyone else has any other suggestions or experience in the matter all help would be greatly appreciated I'm trying to avoid going through the inspection BS because I've only heard horror stories about that. Iam pretty sure it was built back in the 70's but like I said we really don't know.

Welcome to the site! Looks like a fun ride. I am not sure exactly how to go about registering it. Keep us up to date on how you do register it.
Re: I hope there is still hope
So after talking to the department of revenue they said all I have to do is get a T-128(verifying it has no vin) and a T22b (a replacment vin) forms filled out by the police and it's done. It'll be street legal like it's a 70 bug. State farm said it's also ok to insure it that way too. I was kind of amazed by that to be honest but iam super excited and ready to start working on it. I do need some engine help bc I know nothing about vw aircooled engines or what I have. The bad news is idn if it even any good bc it's locked up. Any helpI want to learn?

Unfortunately, locked up, is typically not good at all. Being that it is a rail and has no lid over the engine, it's probably been exposed to rain and got some rust working against it. Sometimes, with a lot of patience and penetrating oil, they can be worked free. I've never done it though, so can't offer much advice. Good luck with it!

I have had good luck with diesel freeing things up in the past.....pull the spark plugs and fill the engine till it runs out and let it sit....try everyday or so to get it to spin
