71 Baywindow carport find
I found this bus local, which is amazing since there are so few here. Its a 71 all original, except the paint. It used to be yellow. Looks like the original engine. Has all the seats with minimal wear. Not sure what to do with it yet, but the plan is to just pull the engine to clean and reseal, and get the brakes working. It does have some rust in the outer rockers, but around here they all do. The owner passed away so it hasn't run in about 4 years. Bought it from her daughter. Have the title from 1985 along with some maintenance records and owners manual.

Re: 71 Baywindow carport find
Finally pulled the engine. It has some end play so now I have to decide which direction to go. Heater boxes are shot. And someone duct taped the doghouse on. "Mechanics"

Re: 71 Baywindow carport find
How much end play? You might be able to shim that back to spec as long as the thrust bearing is within tolerance.

Re: 71 Baywindow carport find
Don't think so that will just seize the motor up seen people make that mistake many times. With a bus build something new and give it a fresh start.

Re: 71 Baywindow carport find
Yeah, I am afraid the engine is just tired. Considering the shape of the heater boxes and the amount of build up, it may have never had a rebuild. Looks like its been out for a clutch but nothing more. All of the fuel hose, vacuum hose, etc. are very old. The old vacuum hose for the power brakes is falling apart. I am pretty positive it would run ok as is, but that would just buy a little time.

Re: 71 Baywindow carport find
I would love to know how to do it, and find a boring bar. Isn't there a couple different designs? One being more precise than the other?

Re: 71 Baywindow carport find
I have an acquaintance that is sort of local that can do it. I may give him a try. I appreciate the offer. Being in Rome certainly cuts my options down. Since this is the original engine to the bus, I guess someone that has done it before should probably do it. LOL. If this falls through I may look up the machine shop you mentioned.
