They're back! Oil leak returns Empty They're back! Oil leak returns

On the way home from Cruise the Coop we sprung a leak at what looks like the sand seal we installed last month. This is the Scat seal kit we put in. Looks like the seal has spun in the housing and is no longer holding. Should this move like this?

I'd have to say no. I've never used a sand seal before. After helping Rich this weekend get his fixed and seeing how the one he had just fell into the case, that can't be right.

Might have to much crank case pressure or crank end at is to great. How are you venting pressure and how full are you filling crankcase with oil. Is that washer lose? Oil pressure can also play a roll and maybe a crack in pulley.

Both valve covers & filler tube vented to breather box. No kinks in any hoses. No apparent leaks anywhere else ( but pulley oil spray puts it all over the case and deck lid). Ran fine almost a month, not a single drop then lost 1/2 quart in 15 miles. Had it flat bedded home. Never more than 2.5 quarts in case

Jeff, did you watch the video? The seal is moving freely in the case behind the pulley.

No. 3 tubes. 1 to each valve cover. 1 to oil filler. Should that T up to the air cleaner?

Carb air cleaner to breather box . I would drill, tap and install a 90 deg fitting in the lid if space avalible. Normally don't vent valve cover on a 1641. I only use sand seals that have case machined with properly made pulleys anything else is just a bandaid. There are double lip seals out there napa nos18536 might help depends on brand you have. Sand seal are to keep dirt out not hold oil in dirt kills engines. Saw vidio something made seal move . Crankcas pressure,Imperfection in case piss poor seal or not installed correctly or glued in right sect.

Yep. Vent your breather through the carb and make sure you have sand seal specific crank pulley. Then replace the seal obviously

Found a drawing online showing the air cleaner draw but we've had it without for over a year. I'll start with that change. I guess I'll need to get that sand seal back out & replaced. I found it tough to do in the car but manageable. Anyone know if I can order just the scat seal or do I need to reorder the whole kit with a new pulley, spacers, seal and fitting that came in the first kit?

Seal only if Napa don't got what ya need. All seals like this installation Its always better with engine removed if access is tough. http://cdn3.volusion.com/wyqbv.rwgzm/v/vspfiles/photos/80173-2.jpg?1393840495

I glued in the metal fitting with the yellow hi temp 3M and then pressed in the seal. The retainer looks solid on the case. Since that original, month old seal is so loose now should I consider glueing in the new seal into the metal fitting?

Talked to Scat today they say the seal may have dried enough to catch on the pulley and pull it away from the locktite that held it in. Once loose the oil pushed the seal out of the retainer. Scat Sending a new seal tomorrow.

Yes. That's what makes me think the seal was not locked in correctly from scat as we did put that light coat of moly on there. We can Still see the light coat on the pulley. Just an unfortunate setback we hope. Thanks for you help!
