My mustache (bar) is off by a hair?

Post by ultralite on Sat Aug 31, 2013 8:56 pm

So I got the engine back in today all lined up nice. All 4 bolts to the bell housing, lined up and looking good. But me mustache is a little off kilter. Both sides are a little too far forward. I try lifting the engine a little and trying to tug back a little but nothing.

This is my first engine pull and reinstall.

Yep, I have the washers. But the threading is still a little too far forward.

I even tried lifting to where I can see the threaded holes at an angle, then try to start the bolts in the hope that tightening would pull it all back. But, the bolts don't quite reach that way

I have the whole bus up on jack stands. Is it possible there's enough overall flex to that bar alignment off? Such that, when the engine was in you couldn't tell. But once "unbolted" it rested in a flexed position?

I actually never unbolted the bar from the motor. I disconnected the bar from the chassis and removed bar and engine together.

Nah, I had never taken it off during the drop. I figured it out. I had the rubber engine mounts on too tight to the bar. If you leave them loose to the bar and start the bolts from both sides, as you slowly tighten one and then the other, it will all come into alignment.

Do you still own all those vehicles in your signature? have you done any work to that monster you just bought?

Ah, I was actually thinking of a late bay bar. They will be way off if reversed.
Updated my signature, a lot has changed since the old one! Still waiting for some time on the beast. Hopefully in the next week the work on the new house will be close to done, then back to the dubs!
