Your first VW.

Post by peregrine67 on Tue May 14, 2013 4:29 pm

Went over to my mom's house on Sunday and broke out the scrap books. Found some pictures of our first VW and wanted to share.
These pictures were taken on two different camping trips in the summer and fall of 1972.

If I remember correctly it was a 1972 9-seater deluxe. Note how the seat is installed backwards on the last photo. We kept it like that all the time.

Feel free to post pictures and stories of your first VW.

I bought mine from my parents. Me and my dad have fixed it up over the years.

My first car was an 83 (or 84?) Rabbit. I knew I wanted a VW for my first car, air cooled or not. My first air cooled was actually my third car...but I can't find any pics of her Sad I found these old pics. I had put different wheels and tires on it, but can't find any "after" pics. I wish I had this shift knob back!

I have been around them from young but got my first one only a couple years ago after wanting one for a while. The day I got it and how it looks right now.

sweet. I've been trying to decide and stick with a paint scheme on mine. Is that plasti dip or just flat black paint?

Its satin paint. Not perfect but serves its purpose Cool

even if you'd have said plasti-dip, it still looks good. unique. Definitely know it's your car!

These are the first two that were really mine (not the familys). The first was the sad looking '64 in the background. It was a little too far gone for my skills and pocket at the time. The blue '68 was my first one to hit the road and I drove it for a few years. Parts from both these cars, and the familys '66 all helped to create Old Yeller.

I painted this picture from a photo I took when still living in Maryland in the late 80's. It was painted in 2000.
