Unconnected wires - '79 Beetle Empty Unconnected wires - '79 Beetle

Yesterday my '79 Beetle didn't want to start, then when it did start, it ran really rough, like it was missing a cylinder. So today I made sure every connection in the engine was tight. While digging around, I found these two wires hidden behind the fan. The car runs fine without them connected to anything. Any ideas what these are for? Are they diagnostic connections or something one of the previous POs might have done?

After I checked all the connections, she runs just fine.

Just tape or tie it in a way that it won't get caught on or in anything and it should be fine.
