My 64 bucket
New here, just moved down from Chattanooga and this is my bucket. I got it in boxes and has been slowly going back together for the last 8 months or so. There is still a lot to do but time and money is tight right now.
The day it came home.
The OE engine was pulled apart and put together finger tight than sat for 14 years.
After cutting twisting and narrowing the beam 6in., dropped spindles, flipped tie rods, setting the frame head back a little over a inch, 4in. Dropped and extended spring plates, 3in. Trans raise, flat pan...and a bunch of other crap I can't remember right now lol...
The front fender trim is gone...ground it off pulling in and out of the driveway.
Here is the engine now, I was making the air filter piping in this shot.

Thanks guys! Looks like there is a good amount of aircooled people around here. The pictures are with 165's out back, went to 185/60's and mini tubs...resplined a little and much better ride at the same ride height.

Re: My 64 bucket
Made some trim for the running boards today from some crap laying around work.
Now I can see where the boards end and the ground begins...
Some pics during the build
Narrowed,cut and twisted beam.
Down in back..self made drop and extended plates. Got camber?
Spindles on. Front tires pretty much sitting on headlight buckets. Also started on trans raise...camber is gone
Rear view, no way the air filter will clear the deck lid.

Re: My 64 bucket
Here is some more.
Here is the exhaust getting extended.
Frame head off to trim it back.
Going back on.
Back on.
Fixed the front wheel location, well off the buckets now.
Flipped tie rods and you can see the trans nose cone above the tunnel. Running a external shift rod.
Building a raised shifter base from a junk tunnel. All the welding on the pans in this shot was done by the po and had to be redone.
Made a 2 piece shift rod so the shift rod bushing could be replaced without pulling the body. Also moved the park brake handle over a little to clear the shift rod.
Cut the floor out for the flat pan, made some cuts and flattened it right out.
Got the exhaust tucked up nice and tight, then bent the pinch welded seam over for added clearance.
Started the tub action, you can also see the raised package tray.
front beam
Torsion housing.

Re: My 64 bucket
Thanks guys! There is a number of things you run into with a trans raise but it really depends on how much of a raise you want to do. For low vw's this is a great forum:
http://cultwagen.com/
Tons of info there and some pretty cool members! In the pictures of the build I have temp tires on the front, I do not run those, they were just for the build. I'm running 145/65's same diameter and much safer. Just wanted to get that out so nobody thought I was truckin around on temps.

Did some paint work today, also got my wipers working, but that was boring...the paint turned out pretty cool tho
The rear deck lid. I just painted over the rust and all hahaha.
Here is the hood with the tape in place.

Thanks everyone! Its actually like a stencil you lay out some lace, in this case it was a table cloth, then you spray paint over it, the paint ends up being the reverse image of the lace. Its pretty easy to do especially when the most perfect result isnt required, the hardest part would be placing the lace straight and laying the paint down evenly. I guess that's just the hardest part about painting in general but with the fabric sucking up the paint it can be a little tough to tell when you have put enough on in some areas. I used a flat black so combined with the rust/rough surface and the flat paint it really looks like it has some type of texture to it.
