64 beetle "peaches"

Post by LB Bedwell on Thu Jan 17, 2013 10:59 pm

Finally moved my "uncool" Monte Carlo for this pretty clean 64 seems solid and hope to make it a good driver, got it with a bad generator and tires from 1984 from the OG owners grandson who "aquired it" in his grandfathers estate, this guy saved everything from the original invoice, 3 part owners manual, every GA tag receipt since it was new, the import certificate and all sorts of nicknacks he saved for the last 49 years, definetly proud to own this one and to be able to get it out of the garage and out from underneath the cover.

Damn. Can't believe you let the Monte Carlo go. That thing was the cleanest mc I think I have ever seen. At least you got a sweet bug for it. I like it!

yeah I ve had that Monte since 93 bitter sweet letting it go, but it was time, I believe it was a fair deal, got a few things to work out on this one before its a daily and the monte was driven everyday but it was a monte, not a dub so Ill be able to sleep, kicked myself for letting the 62 go but it was what it was and Im glad its got a good home with Brooks, now the busses have another role model.

thanks yall, now to work the bugs out of it, I have no oil light on at all and then generator light wont go off with the key on, so I got a used generator and put it on yesterday and it went off, drove it, adjusted the POS pict 34 a bit, and washed it finally, then drove it to dry it and the damn light reappears, going to try another voltage regulator and see what happens, oh the joy

well drove it this AM and it will not idle after its warm, or have any power, it spits sputters and dies if you dont feather the throttle, and sitting in traffic that is lots of fun, at least the e brake works ok, at first I thought it had to be the carb and have messed with it, and messed with it, and had outside sources mess with it, but it runs so perfect cold and will run out if the throttle is open all the way, Im leaning toward the coil, gonna pull one off the one of the busses and try that, got to love working it out Mad

Check that the cut-off solenoid is working. If not, it will not idle once the choke has warmed up. Unplug the power wire to the solenoid (drivers side of carb). Turn the key to "on", but don't crank it. Then hook the wire up to the solenoid, you should hear a click. Unplug/plug the wire up about 5-6 times and make sure it clicks EVERYTIME.
