Anti-Ethanol Additives
Are you guys putting in an anti-ethanol additive in their fuel? "Geek" has sat for the last 3 -4 weeks and on 7/14 I drove it to McDonough for our monthly meet. I put BP gas in it before driving over, and I drove home with no issues. After getting home my wife text me and wanted to meet for dinner so I drove to the joint for dinner. We leaving the car started fine ran fine and when I backed down my drive the car would not idle. Sunday morning I go out to see what the issue is and it fired right up I let the choke cut off, it idled a little low so I will check the points timing later after driving to my moms. Drove to my moms a couple hours later and while the engine was @ operating temp I checked the timing and adjusted the air mix to bring the idle rpm up. After watching the NASCAR race for a while the engine had cooled so I checked the points and they were a little tight so I adjusted that and set timing again and set idle rpm again. It now idles much better but it feels like it is bucking at medium throttle(45-50mph). I think there is water in the gas or something like that. The points looked great and when I was doing all the adjustments you listen to the engine and it has a pop or slight... not really a skip just an off moment from time to time. Really didn't have that spark that it usually has when you are really on the throttle. Something is amiss....

My vert does the same thing. Staybill makes an fuel treatment that I have used in the past. It helped out a lot I think I got it from autozone

I think you are right my friend! I drove him to work this morning to show some love but it still has that miss at around 45-50. Need gas so I will stop by AP store and check out what products are available.

Re: Anti-Ethanol Additives
I work at advance and know a lot of the fuel additives. If you add anything only go with the blue staybill its the marine quality and the only one that really works to treat the ethanol. Also lucas makes an ethanol treatment that is really good. As far as for everything else seafoam is an awesome fuel system cleaner that will clean all the fuel system out and really help performance! I always run seafoam through everything i have with an engine on it from time to time just to help with all the ethanol and it helps to keep the lines treated so you dont have to keep replacing those too. And also to avoid all the situations with the ethanol all together there are several gas stations around that you can find that still have ethanol free gas. I know of a lot of them in the northern part of georgia in the mountain areas but im sure there are some around everywhere. Oh and if you need an octane boost there is a product called octane boost at the autoparts store that works really well too.

Re: Anti-Ethanol Additives
I got the Staybil (Red) Ethanol Treatment. I got it at Advance and didn't see the blue stuff. Was looking for "Star Tron" brand, it is blue in color. Was recommended by a guy I work with. He cuts lawns on the side and uses a lot of fuel for his mowers. He says they run cooler too.
Re: Anti-Ethanol Additives
I run the Lucas treatment in all my aircooled VWs and lawn equipment. It is what Jake Raby recommended to me.
Re: Anti-Ethanol Additives
Got some blue stabil marine today, more expensive than the red stuff but is more concentrated..

Re: Anti-Ethanol Additives
the blue staybill is some of the best stuff out there. I'd be careful running that red ethanol treatment. Ive had several customers come back in to work and say it just messed up there fuel systems like clogged them and stuff. they were fuel injected but still. All the mechanics i talk to say the same thing that it just doesnt work very well. but if you have any luck with it let me know.
