'73 standard "rescue"
This is my new to me '73 standard. I am new to aircooled, finally got one after lusting for a couple of years. Lots of plans for it, but mostly will be driving the wheels off of it. I need a new quiet muffler as it has an empi stinger on it right now and some smaller rear tires. On to the pictures:

Looking good!
I saw this at the show sat. Man brings back memories of my old 73. I think i want one again.

I HAD to get those rear tires off this thing so I picked up a pair of used 185 65's. Now I have to get the coilover shocks off and see how much the rear comes down.

Got rid of the stinger and put on an Empi quiet pack single. It is so much nicer to drive now and I am sure the neighbors are happier! Here is the proof:

Re: '73 standard "rescue"
Just thought I would check in and say hi. I have been living in Fort Worth, TX for the last year, now going to art school since being laid off. I have made a few changes to the car and even had to rebuild the engine when #3 cylinder finally lost compression. The guy that sold me the car in Atlanta lied to me and told me it had an 1835cc in it when I tore it down and found out it was just a stock 1600 with decent heads. I have also replaced the interior with the full TMI kit except for the headliner, that will wait until we can get in to a house instead of and apartment. Here is a recent picture with some of the more obvious changes:

Glad all is well in TX. Bug looks good. Good to see that you are still kicking around in it.

Re: '73 standard "rescue"
I haven't been on here in months but wanted to say "hi". Still banging my knuckles on my '73 out here in Texas. I am now a full time student in the Graphic Design program in the Art Institute of Fort Worth so the car now has a more "artistic" paint scheme that I hand painted with a little help from another student. Updates have been converting to wide five drums and scoring a set of Empi 5 spokes for $200, swapped to a '68 decklid, Grant 13" steering wheel, Bugpack T-handle shifter (very nice quality),'62 90mph speedo and HID headlight conversion. In the works right now is a 3" narrowed beam with 2 1/2" dropped spindles that will drop the front 4 1/2". Also almost done is a 2007cc stroker motor with 44 HPMX's, Engle FK43 cam, Forged 78mm crank, AA 90.5 pistons, AA H-beam rods with chevy journals, straight cut gears, big valve heads with dual springs, 1 5/8 header with fat boy muffler and it will be running 9 to 1 compression. Heads are mild and rockers will be stock ratio for now to limit power to about 120hp. After I "finish" the car and I am not using it as a daily it will get 1.4 ratio rockers and radical heads to try to reach my goal of 160-170hp. Enough chat, here are a couple pictures:

Awesome paint work! I really like the special vibe it adds to the car.
How about some pictures of the masterpiece under the hood?

Re: '73 standard "rescue"
Finally got the motor put in the car and broke in. I am going to pull it back out tomorrow and fix a couple of oil leaks and get in back in and done. Also put in a 3 1/2" narrowed and adjustable beam with 2 1/2" dropped spindles. The lower ball joints contacted the inside of the Empi 5 spokes so I had to go buy some BRM's!

Re: '73 standard "rescue"
I finally uploaded the video I took of a short drive I went on just a few days after the motor was put in. Car was actually having a fuel pump issue I didn't know at the time and was breaking up at higher RPM's. I don't have a tach in it yet but it will rev much higher now and got 70mph in third with a little more left today. On to the video:

Thanks. It has definitely shown me the weakness of the stock brakes! I had a 4 lug disc brake conversion but decided to convert the car to wide 5. Saving up for the wide 5 conversion now.
