Blast from the past..........

Was going thru some stuff and found these pics taken at the IVWA Summer Nationals. Yes, once upon a time the nats came to Georgia, specifically the dragstrip in Commerce. This was around the late 80's, early 90's, I can't remember exactly which. But I do remember it was hot as blazes that day.........

the red zztop car was built about 5 miles from my house i went to alot of those shows from95 till tommy stoped doing them

The very top one (the other red chop top not the ZZTop ) is one I helped work on at a bodyshop I worked at in the late 80s. And that red 73 looks just like one I had around that time.

I remember we drove the 74 to the show. On the way home one of the rear drums kept sticking and the drum was getting pretty hot. I clamped the hose with some vice grips and the shoes finally backed off some allowing us to limp home....





Kim had a thing for red verts even way back then. Guess I will have to get her one eventually.......

That split bumper is a nifty idea for my Ghia...

Yeah Tommy's car was pretty cool used to see him alot when I lived on the west side back then.

Steve Sands car is in the Drag Strip photo. That is the original paint job before he changed it. Had the white top with red at bottom instead of checkers.

What are the chances the Bus in the background would or could be yours?

I am pretty sure my bus was still in Colorado around that time, but I had to take a second look when I saw this pic!

Holy Smoke... we went to almost all those back in the late 80's we had a local club called Aircooled Cruisers. we would roll down from Spartanburg. i can remember we almost never had less than 15 cars in our convoys,and usually we would meet up with others riding down and it would be aircooled as far as i could see.thanks for the memories post more if you have them.after going back through the pics that is our club president's plum colored 61 in the back ground of the second pic in front of the burgundy ford ranger mini truck.

Your right, that is Steve Sands. But I was chatting with him, and that paint job was a completely different car- a big window. Not his current Oval.
