Is anyone running a 195/50/15 on the rear. Mine is clicked 2 times and I have a really nice set of this size. Just wondering if these will work.

It'd be a much shorter tire than stock 165/15. Running it on the back will increase your RPMs a good bit. It's also fatter, not sure how much clearance you have on the backside of your tire, but if it's already tight, it could cause rubbing issues. I have short axles and stock tires. I'm down 1 click in the rear and am pretty close to rubbing.

You can go here and compare tire sizes to see the size difference.

On a stock width wheel or up to a 5.5 the 195 50's look like ballons.
I ran that set up on sone 5.5 empi 8's and they just looked bad.
I still have 2 good ones in storage that I may use on a wide wheel one day.

Like Eric said, when your speedometer is reading 60 MPH, you're only going 53.6 MPH, a 10.7% error. Imagine how fast your engine is revving at 70 MPH!

Ok thanks guys, I want to go a little lower in profile so what do I need. I just want the stance a little lower without clicking it again. I'm running 165/80's now...

I ran a 195 65 15. Before I swapped wheels. They were shorter than the 165s but did ballon some. There are pics of my car in the 60s section showing the tires. Try looking here also. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=247735&highlight=wheel+tire+combo

it's what helped me a bit. But people also used some funky sizes you can only get online. I would rather deal with a person face to face when it comes to getting tires.

RPM will depend on the trans/tire combo....
Early Trans through '66 has a 4.375 R/P All Swings short hub, short axle.
Early Late Trans '67 - '73 has a 4.125 R/P. '67 - '68 Swing Axle, long Hub long Axle, '69 - '73 are all IRS, Side plates both sides.
Late Trans '74 on has a really nice 3.88 R/P. All IRS, only one side plate only.

The same tire on each of these trans R/P setups will output a different RPM at the same speed.

I'm running a 205/65r15 on the back of Geek and @ 70mph I'm turning right at 3800. I have a Tach, it might be a little low. The trans in Geek is a 4.375 R/P. I downloaded a trans calculator from a site. You can plug in different scenarios to see what the end result will be bases on different combos.

I ran the same tire on O'Bugga, that car had a 4.125 R/P and @ 70mph it turned 32-3300. Read from the same Tach.

I have a Super with the 3.88 R/P and I love it on the Interstate, not sure about the RPMs, no Tach. I'm planning on building an IRS pan to o back under Geek!

I believe that a 195/70r15 would be equivalent to the 205/65r15 diameter wise.

195 = Tread Width in mm / 70 = Side Wall Profile in % of Tread Width R = Diameter of Wheel

Get a 185/65 or 185/60 I run the latter. I know they will rub the inside at two clicks with stock wheels idk if they will or not with your wheel set up

I'm gonna have to do something... I can drive it now and as I'm going down the road wet is way worse but it will dart from the rear as if a cop is behind me trying to pit me. It's parked in the driveway with its tail tucked between its legs scared to death right now. Can I purchase extended & notched spring plates for my 65 anywhere and send my old ones back when I change them out? If I take my car to my friend it's gonna have to sit in his garage in the way until the plates are mailed off to get done and sent back. I believe plates and a wider shorter tire should fix me up...
