Got a few little things done the last couple of weeks.

Finally got my new bumper guards painted and installed. These are reproductions from CIP1, but they fit pretty nice. Unfortunately, I overtightened one of the bolts on the rear and it went to far and put a little bump on one of the rear guards, but oh well. One small bump is better than the 100 bumps the originals had. Laughing Still haven't found a close match for the red color of the bus, so I just went ahead and painted the emblem with the closest thing I had. It's a different shade, but looks better than the white color it was.

Got my door window frames back together with fresh paint and all new rubber.
Also picked up some dirt cheap fiber board stuff from homedepot and cut some door panels for the front doors so I don't have to look at bare doors anymore and installed my pull handles.

Got my replacement hinges for the bed so now I can lay the bed down easily without having to dig around each side and lift the catch piece up manually. While the bed was apart I went ahead and covered in the same green material as the jump seat.

Rust work is no fun, so to avoid having to tackle the rust issues, I've been working on the interior a little bit more. Got to get some curtains up before Bulli, so the last couple of weeks I've been slowly working on the long wall.

Put a layer of peel n seel on the long wall, then covered that with some of the foil/bubble/foil insulation stuff. Used my original board that came with the bus as a template and cut a new wall out of 4x8 birch. Did a good bit of sanding and put a few coats of satin polyurethane on to hopefully keep it clean and rot free. Made some new window frames and a valance to hide the curtain tracks. The valance is a little lighter in this pic cause I still need to sand and polyurethane it.

Bob, if you make it out this weekend you can see this fine wood specimen up close in person.

And Joe, I know it doesn't have one of them fancy televisions like the rich folks have, I'm just waiting on my lottery numbers to get picked. Razz

My curtain tracks and sunbrella fabric got delivered today, so maybe I'll start getting some curtains completed here soon.

Well, the long interior panel I made a few weeks ago just wasn't going to work out. It darkened up a good bit once it was polyurethaned, and no matter what combination of stains I tried, I just could not get my 5' x 5' sheets of baltic birch to match it. So I scraped it, and re-did the long wall out of two sheets of the baltic birch. We really wanted it lighter anyway and weren't very happy with how the original piece darkened up so much, so it all worked out in the end.

I originally went with a 4 x 8 sheet so I could have the seam behind the third window, but with the new wood I had to put the seam between the second and third window. Not really a big deal though since the curtain hides most of it.

before with the old panel
66 Camper Bus "Bocephus" - Page 7 Interior

New panels in finished with the curtains. I'm temporarily re-using the old valance

Going to start on the cargo doors next, then the ceiling, the recover the closet and jump seat in the new wood.

We're gonna have to miss the Airheads campout next weekend, so we decided to take a quick trip to north Georgia for some fall colors and to test out the new curtains in the bus. Trip also served as a good shakedown (300+ miles) for the Bulli trip next month.

We took Bocephus to Cloudland Canyon, and then camped up the road a few miles at the KOA.

Here's a few pics.

We had a blast. The drive to the park was awesome. We took Hwy 27 pretty much the whole way there, very little traffic, and great scenery. Bocephus ran like a BOSS!

Yeah, the curtains worked great, but unfortunately they don't block the sound of train horns or roosters. Laughing
