Hooked up a battery to the 63, so far I got dash lights, tail lights, the radio lights up (speakers shot, so I can't tell if its putting out any sound), and I have intermittent headlights and horn. When I first hooked it up I had an oil light but the starter would not turn over. Now the oil light won't come on. scratch

But the brake inards in the transaxle on The Jolly Rancher. Took the wheels to the tire shop to get some tires mounted. Crossing fingers that It'll be driving Thursday. Then drive the crap out of it in prep for Bulli.

What was all that grief you gave me a few years back about wrenching on my ride the night before the longest cruise of the year? You better get it all done before Thurs! lol

It'll have more than coulpe hundred miles on it with some long interstate runs before I head south. If it's not running good by the 31st, I'll drive something else to Bulli. You can be sure I won't be doing anything mechanical (except maybe an oil change) the day before I roll out.

LOL! My bus isn't that low. 13mm to pull of the exhaust so it doesn't scrape should be all I need. Haven't missed a Bulli in at least 5 years. Don't plan on missing this one either.

Dropped my wheels off at Miller's Powdercoating. Need to take my new exhaust for ceramic coating once I get it test fit too.

Got the trany in the Jolly Rancher yesterday. Attempted a spin around the block. Seems the newly rebuilt trans has a worn main shaft bearing. Makes noise in gear and when the clutch is disengaged. Sounds fine when my foot is on the clutch. Also think there is a differential/vulcrum issue. Clunking noise in the turns. Looks like The Jolly Rancher will miss Bulli for the first time in five years. Evil or Very Mad

That does indeed suck Glenn! Time to pull the trans out of the bug, install the 68 axles, and slap it in the bus! Cool

We won't hold it against you if you drive the bug, or some other non-vw.

Wind has gone out of my sails. Don't think I have the time to do it all over again and get the proper road testing in before the departure.

If I drive down there, I'll drive the bug. I think the Syncros in 1st and 2nd are going in that trany so that will take some consideration on my part.

The good news is I have a plane and friends who might be inclined to pick me up at a local airport if I should decide to fly down there.

Yesterday I replaced the shift coupler, pulled the clutch cable, put a coulpe welds on the clutch hook to reinforce it, lubed the cable and pedals, reinstalled the pedal cluster, and adjusted the clutch in Warbird. Now it'll go in first gear without issues from a dead stop. Nice little bandaid will hopefully get me to FL and back.

Got me some tunes installed for drive to Bulli. Guy on the samba had mentioned this unit and said it sounded awesome and fit on the parcel tray. It's an 8 speaker bluetooth unit that runs on 12v. This thing has AWESOME sound. And it also has a rechargeable battery with a 6 hour life, so you can take it out of the bus at campsites or shows or the beach.

it's this unit if anyone is interested.
