Sometime in 2002....

Notice all the Aircraft stripper cans over the front hood.

Day after bringing her home.... May 2001

I've owned quite a few bugs through the years but this is my first attempt at a full resto. I've tried to learn from others mistakes and advice. I stripped it, primed it, sanded it, shoot it with color and clear. I installed the headliner and lowered and narrowed the frnt beam. I had someone repair the lower door hinge rust but I think I could of done a better job. So many things I would of done differently. The next one I will do differently.

I'm looking for a splitty bus or double cab. My wife and I went to Pasco Bug Jam and now she is Hell bent on a double cab. I will say they are cool but I may not have the room in my shop to restore one. Look honey I have to build a bigger shop. Laughing

Nice car. I am ready to see this car in person. I was going to ask you if the car was red but i know somewhere else you said it was burnt orange? I think.

Oh I like it much better burnt orange than the red as I initially though it was. Gives it more of an old vw color feel even though it is off of a new beetle.... Shocked

Re: My 1966 "O'Bugga"

You hit it on the head! Gives it a vintage look. I bought a 66 that had been Baja'd back in the 80's and it was this color. I took the car apart and it could not of been painted that way, folks didn't do that to cars unless they were to be show cars. This car was this burnt orange from the factory. I've been told that that was not an offered color that year but I beg to differ! So I wanted a HotRod look but a vintage feel at the same time, thus the orange color I was turned on to 20 plus years ago. I also wanted some of the Calook days to be reflected in this car also thus the Tee bars, 8 Spokes and no blinker. But then I like the new look, Resto-Custom also. So stock interior and power plant under the hood, well to come any ways. Need more cash! If I had used single stage paint I think it would of looked better. You know even more old school. My next Bug project will be that light blue color or a creamy white with off-white and gray panels and seats. But I've still got interior to go on "Oh Bugga". That cash thing again.

Oh Bugga Before it was mine

Post by rpm750 on Wed Dec 10, 2008 2:07 pm

K, Raining, not much to do at work today and I got on Google Earth looking around. I went to the house where I picked up my bug back in 2001 and what do you know. The shot was from before May of 2001 because there she sat in the back yard.
Heres the image....

Yeah thats her the red blob, now she's an orange blob.
Oh yeah there was a single cab under the shed (white roof) you see in front of the bug.
Chessie huh! Suspect

recordings always sound different then real life. I'm pretty sure you would have noticed a rod knocking when making the video, lol. when i recorded a vid of my motor, it sounded like someone was taking a grinder to some metal when the turbo spools up. it just records funny. That was with my camera (it has a video feature), but when i record with my camcorder, it sonds much better. gotta love technology, lol

Sounds good to me. After my first attempt to add big bore pistons and beef up my 1200 it was knocking. Sounded like someone on the inside of the engine smacking a 10 pound sledge against the inside of the case. You would for sure here it load and clear.

I guess if you drive a car everywhere you go SHIT will eventually find you. Well this morning was that F()(&ING day!

Some one ahead of me, several minutes ahead of me, hit a deer and you guessed it I ran over the carcass!

Pics after it was washing.....

Man, it seems like alot of bad VW luck going around lately! Sad I guess the up side is that you hit the carcass rather than hitting the deer first, atleast you didn't get hurt, metal can be replaced...... Very Happy
