Intro from a stranger
Hi
I've just registered and after a welcome on the chat board thought I'd say hello. I came over to Atlanta a few weeks ago on business close to Gwinnett so thought I'd look you up as I might be back over. If I do I thought I'd check to see if you were meeting up and pop along.
So I've been into Vdubs for 20 years and have had Ghia's, a type 3, a Bay, a Type25, a couple of 1303 and torsion beetles.
My current stable has a 1303 cabriolet, a 65 Split and a 65 Cabriolet.
Here's a quant picture of the 65 , and yes it was a long way from home
Thought you might be interested in a show we had last weekend in Brighton on the south coast, it was organised by the Split Screen Club, which is nationwide. We had 1000 vw's parked along the sea front and about 200 drove down from London in convoy.

Re: Intro from a stranger
Beautiful ride and welcome aboard. We have a Thursday "coffee" meet every week at the Starbucks in Lawrenceville (Gwinnett County). Please join us when you are in town. A couple of members and good friends of ours are from across the pond as well but I'm not sure where. Pete, Mindy and Dug use the screen name splittybus1967
Again, welcome aboard!

Re: Intro from a stranger
Thanks for the invites and I hope the days line up. I'll be staying right on your door step as I'll be visiting NCR at Norcross at the intersection between the 403 and 316.
My local club is Herts, as its based in and around Hertfordshire and we have a similar club forum.
www.hertsvwclub.org
Nice and informal and polite and it looks like we have the same sort of grass roots club, something for everyone.
A mate of mine is a prolific photographer when it comes to the UK shows so if you ever want to see what's going on in the UK then take a look at this site,
http://www.vwbug.co.uk/
Meanwhile here's another picture of the cabby
and my latest running project which I took down to Brighton is the 65 Deluxe. Its from the US which I hope you don't flame me fort and was brought over in the summer by an American on his holiday, I assume to pay for it

Re: Intro from a stranger
Hi Wellsy, welcome to Georgia!
We were members of the London & Thames Valley VW Club briefly before moving over here in 2004. Are you relocating with work? Pete's job moved us here, forcing us to sell our '78 bay, so got our '67 Kombi with the relo check! (oops, cheque!). Looking forward to meeting you and your vehicle/s- will you be repatriating the splitty?!

I'm only coming over for a few days not a full relocation unfortunately. So it will be a fleeting visit.
I know the L&TVClub quite well as Herts used to have quiz night competitions against them. John is still arranging the swap meet in Slough which is in a couple of weeks.
I'm coming over the week of the 3rd of November but I've got to arrange which days next week.

Re: Intro from a stranger
I'm going to be over next week, a little short notice but might you guys be meeting up. Mon, Tues or Wednesday?
Re: Intro from a stranger
Gary? We have a man coming all the way across the pond. Can we move the day one time? If you need a poll, I'm in for Wednesday.wellsy_UK wrote:I'm going to be over next week, a little short notice but might you guys be meeting up. Mon, Tues or Wednesday?
Re: Intro from a stranger
I'm all for it. I will send out an email letting everyone know that it will be Wed. next week.

I changed our meet day from Thurs. to Wed. for next week. We meet at 7:30p.m. at the Starbucks on Hwy. 124 in Lawrenceville. It is the one between Waffle House and a car wash. If you need help getting there just let us know. Looking forward to meeting you.

Re: Intro from a stranger
im out tonight waiting on parts...- but next wed is looking good as long as im in a good enough mood abt the election results
Re: Intro from a stranger
Brilliant guys thanks, I'm looking forward to getting away.
I'm staying over at the Marriott on Pleasant Hill Rd, Duluth so it looks like it's just along the Ronald Reagan Pkwy.
I was only joking today that you can't give direction with Waffle Houses because they seem to be on every other corner
but Starbucks on the other hand
I'm assuming its either 1205 or 1220 and not 1245 on Scenic Hwy
Google Map LINK
Satellite images are useless at finding company building, I just thought of a great business idea, roof advertising for Google Earth.
I'll be on your time zone from Sunday night so I'll be well accustomed to it not being midnight by 7:30, I will probably start to agree with you if its cold. Although it snowed here last night
Hope you had a good night tonight and I'll see you next week. Pending the election dooms day, but lets talk dubs instead
Cheers

Looking forward to it. All of our normal Thurs. nighters are looking forward to it as well. Have a safe trip over and we will see you next week.

Hwy 124 & Webb Gin House Rd
1249 Hwy 24
Lawrenceville, Georgia 30045
770-985-8525
This is the actual address. The Google map doesn't even show that the building has been built. From Ronald Regan you will go east (left) on Hwy 124 and the Starbucks will be about 1.5 to 2 kilometers on the left. Once you go through the light at Webb Gin House Road, go to the next light and U turn (head back west) and the Starbucks will be on the right.
